What you're looking at inside here is the inside of the Pat Barrett Bunker Gear Drying Facility.
Basically what it is, the room is designed for our students to hang their bunker gear.
It has the dehumidifying systems and things that will help dry the bunker gear out
so that they're not putting on wet bunker gear the next day for training.
Of course these racks are pre-made and purchased and basically it's to hang your turn out gear, your bunker gear as some people call it
at the end of training session. You'll hang your coats, your gloves, your helmet will go up here.
We have a little box that they can lock up their personal belongings during training
so that they don't get their billfold and money and things wet.
And then of course your bunker boots and your pants will be here.
We wanted a place for our people to be able to sit down, pull their bunker gear and their bunker pants down around their boots and stuff
and so we installed benches. We made the space wide enough that you're not cramped in here
We could have put more bunker gear in this facility if we wanted to enclose it or lessen the space for our students
but we felt it important for them to have plenty of room to move around and be comfortable.
So it has men's restrooms, women's restrooms. It has a men's shower facility located inside the bunker gear area.
And then the women's shower facility is located inside the women's restroom.
Also there is separate area inside the women's restroom for hanging of the women's bunker gear.
So let's walk in here real quick.
Ok, located in this area, you notice we have a plaque, the Pat Barrett Bunker Gear Drying Facility.
Also in this area we will put a shadow box up on the wall that will have Pat Barrett's bunker coat
that spells out Pat Barrett on the back of his bunker coat.
If you'll notice just from having the doors open outside, it's taking the moisture out of the air.
Every time you open the doors, you allow moisture to come into this building.
We don't even have any wet bunker gear hanging in the building right now and we're taking moisture out of the air.
The building's named after Pat Barrett because, you know, Pat was a long time employee here at this facility.
He was also very instrumental in the Texas Fire Service for many many years.
Pat was, as I said, very instrumental in the growth of this field over the years
and we lost Pat at a very early age and miss him.
Pat was one of my mentors here on the firefield and we didn't think that there was a better deserving person
for the fire service of the state of Texas and for ESTI for the building to be named after.
It's a great facility. It's a great addition to our great facility and we're very proud of it, very proud of it.
