ALLISON DEVINE>> I actually wanted to be a doctor from a very young age. It was something
that I – just from going to the doctor and having those experiences – was something
that I was always interested in. And then, as I started to explore it more
and go out and get involved with things -- I worked as a medical assistant for a while
after college, I got involved with volunteering at the hospital and things like that – I
just realized that I was in an environment that I really enjoyed – talking to patients,
finding out their stories and ways that we can help modify their risks of having health
problems in the future is always something that has been very rewarding to me.
For me, even coming in in the middle of the night for a delivery is still always a rewarding
experience to be part of that with a couple. I think that communication is one of the most
important things that will allow me to be the best doctor that I can be to them. So
I really try to take time to talk to them to really find out what’s important to them,
what’s motivating them, and that actually gives me a lot of insight to know what’s
going to be the best way to help them.
