So this is our Glider Pilot's Parka. We wanted to, Rob and I kind of
wanted to put together something that was really warm, does the job of a puffer jacket
but in a kind of cooler way.
And we kind of, it's this really, really lovely warm piece. We came across
this original over here on my left.
It gets the name glider pilot's parka, this belonged to a
British glider pilot during WWII. It was standard issue for RAF Grounds
Staff. So kind of when they were working out in the cold,
they needed all this. The fur trim around the hood, the fur inside of the hood as well.
It's got this double front so it makes it all storm proof.
But the originals are really, really huge and they're really, really heavy.
So what we wanted to do was keep that warmth, but make it much more modern
and much more light.
So it's got this fake fur trim around the hood and it's got the down fill
to the inside. Then this latches across to here. We got these
wooden toggles at the adjuster and you've got these wooden toggles at the neck
as well.
So that then buttons through, zips through, and you've got the belt
at the waist. There's plenty pockets. You've got a big old map pocket at
the chest
and then these storm proof hip pockets with the patches here as well.
And then the kind of real beauty of this guy (I mentioned it at the beginning)
is, if we open it up, the outside is made of this
cotton nylon and unbutton him
and unzip him,
and then to the inside there, you can see,
you've got this puffer. This down fill with the nylon;
now that kind of all zips through. It goes through the arms, it goes through the body, it goes
through the hood.
And that's completely detachable, so if you want to kind of wear it in more of a spring
type kind of temperature;
you've got a really cool little parka. And if it's really freezing cold outside,
you pop the down warmer inside and you're going to be warm and toasty.
And all in all, you're just going to look great.
So that's our Glider Pilot's Parka.
