"Why do you often sing roles usually assigned to men?"
Ah, this is a good question.
In the opera world, we sing ancient pieces of work.
I don't know, 300 years ago,
young men were played by a castrato.
The voice wasn't changed, unlike men.
So when there were no more castrati
-but that's an other story-
the need for a clear, pure, young voice was still there.
That's why mezzo sing men's roles.
And for me, it's really funny, I play impertinent, impetuous roles!
They are called "pants roles".
"Is your public the same around the world?"
It's weird, because people are the same,
but I feel in every theater sthg peculiar.
Here in Paris, it's very warm,
and the public is very well educated.
And I know, when I'm on stage, if I sing sthg delicate,
they will listen attentively.
"What's your favorite role, and why?"
Oh my, it's very difficult
Right now, it's Elena, from la Donna.
Really, I'm honest.
For me, it's a gift to be able to sing each and every role I do.
Every one of them is a masterpiece.
It's impossible to choose.
I'm happy to sing them all.
It's not a good answer!
