What better way to remember a pop superstar than an all-night party.
Hundreds of Prince fans danced up a storm at the First Avenue club, the Minneapolis
club where "Purple Rain" was filmed, to honour the singer after news of his sudden death.
Prince was found unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park Studios compound in Minneapolis.
His influential, genre-defying music blended jazz, funk, R&B, disco and rock, winning seven
Grammy Awards and an Oscar.
Elsewhere Los Angeles city authorities paid a tribute to the pop legend by lighting their
iconic town hall up in purple.
Tributes have been pouring in for the late single from celebrities and music industry
greats.
There has been no immediate word on the cause of Prince's death, although he had recently
been hospitalized with the flu, prompting him to cancel a pair of performances.
