Here we are on the Sixteenth (16th) Street
Mall here in downtown Denver. It’s about
a mile and a quarter of an
old boulevard, that in the 80’s, designed
by the famous architect I.M. Pei. Uhm,
they re-did it into a large pedestrian
and transit mall. They have these great
little trolley cars that run up and
down, and those are free to take
you up and down through the mall.
Uh, with trees and plants and shops,
movie theaters, local artists galleries. Uhm, kiosks
of all kinds. It’s very well maintained,
and beautifully uh, uhm, uh, sort of,
beautiful landscaping. But, one of the neat
things they’re doing this summer is a
program they’ve done before; call The Keys
to the City. And in it, what
they have done is, they have collected
about a dozen old upright grand pianos,
like this one. They have reconditioned them,
painted them up with local artists, and
have placed them here along the mall
for people to just stop and play.
(A few notes played) Adding music to
everything; from kids playing the music they
learned in their recital; to professional musicians
with their hat out, uh, seeking donations
to supplement their artist income. It is
a great program, and it is, indeed,
noteworthy. (Notes played) Denver.
