There always seems to be a lot of debate surrounding All Stars when the best teams from around
the world come together, the largest of these debates is what region has the strongest teams.
So this week I took a look into what teams are making noise in the League of Legends
scene.
After SKT took commanding control at Season 3 worlds, there was no argument who the best
team in the world was. But over half a year later questions begin to linger about what
teams are looking the best. Despite a recent slump of losses from SKT in the Champions
series Spring play, coming into All Stars the predictions stayed strong for who was
going to take the tournament victory.
Through round 1 games at All Stars SKT jumped on to a 4-0 record, While the north american
spring split champions Cloud 9 managed to take a game off power house team OMG to achieve
a 3-1 record and pick up the second seed even with their mid laner and shotcaller Hai was
out due to illness.
Semifinals matches paired up C9 vs OMG, where OMG returned fire at Cloud 9 to pick up 2
straight wins, followed by SKT, who also delivered a 2-0 sweep over Europe's spring split champions
Fnatic. Heading into the All Star finals was SKT vs OMG, OMG also happened to be the only
team to beat SKT in group stages leading up to worlds in season 3.
SKT took game 1 af ter rallying a 50min game, but took complete control for the rest of
the series in games 2 and 3 to pick up the tournament win with an overall record of 9
wins and 0 losses.
Which brings us back to the debate of what teams look strongest at this point in season
4. From the looks of things Korea's power house SKT still seem to be the team to beat,
but due to their previous loses the lolesports power rankings currently have SKT sitting
in 6th place, with teams Samsung Galaxy Blue, CJ Entus Blaze, Najin White Shield, OMG, and
Samsung Galaxy Ozone all ahead of them.
I personally think that SKT is a top tier team. But the power ranking do hold some truth
to them, out of the top 10 teams only 2 of the are from outside of the korean OGN scene,
North Americas Cloud 9 sitting at #8 and OMG sitting in 2nd, who we just saw get trashed
in games 2 and 3 at All Stars. I think the better question now is will SKT be the number
1 team from the number 1 region or will a different team rise to the occasion. Let me
know down in the comment below who you think will be making it to worlds this year.
