(Michael) My name’s Michael. I’m sixteen years old,
and the use of tobacco has reached an all-time high in my school.
[soft music throughout]
A lot of my close friends smoke cigarettes and chew tobacco on a daily basis.
Health issues are already obvious. They can’t keep up like they used to -- wheezing, shortness of breath.
Those are just a few things that have happened to them since they started.
Early cardiovascular damage is seen amongst young smokers.
Those most sensitive die very young.
Every day more than 1,200 people die due to smoking in this country.
For each of those deaths, two young adults become regular smokers.
The worst part is, none of them know the risks to smoking.
A lot of my classmates are easily influenced into smoking tobacco.
Many tobacco products on the market appeal to young adults,
with flavoring such as strawberry and grape.
A lot of my friends think it’s really cool to smoke, but they don’t know the truth about it.
One-third of young people who keep smoking will die prematurely. It’s just not worth it.
Sometimes, you just need to know when to say no.
Prevention is critical. We can stop this.
If someone hands you a cigarette, say no.
