AISHA: Hi, I'm Aisha Tyler
ELISABETH: Hi, I'm Elisabeth Röhm
AISHA: And you've got…
ELISABETH: The Heart Truth
(Introduction, Background music)
AISHA: The Heart Truth is a heart health awareness campaign sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
I'm involved with The Heart Truth Campaign because my husband's father died, um, abruptly at a very young age from a heart attack.
ELISABETH: My mother passed away two years ago at the age of 60 from a massive heart attack.
So I feel -- in losing my best friend and my soul mate -- that it's my purpose to defend the health
and the well-being of all women and to educate them about their vulnerability.
AISHA: As women we tend to take care of others before we think of ourselves.
At all times, women are always thinking about their families, their children, the people that they work with and they tend to put themselves last.
ELISABETH: Particularly, women, they don't have the time and they don't do their annual checkup until they are much older.
Ultimately, I think, live a life of moderation. No smoking, eat healthy, exercise.
My mother was overweight; she smoked…you know these were some big tell-tale signs that she could have avoided.
I go to the doctor every year and I do everything from an EKG to my cholesterol -- I mean from top to bottom.
AISHA: Don't think about just as something you're doing for yourself; you're doing this for your family.
You're doing this so that the people that you love can keep you in their lives for a long, long time.
