TRAVIS JOHNS: Hi, I'm Travis Johns for Expert Village and I'm going to talk to you about
dealing with emergencies in your video post-production studio. Emergencies can take on any form.
They could be emergencies with the building you're in. They could be emergencies with
the client you're dealing with. They could be emergencies with the project you're working
on. The first thing to remember is you need to stay calm. If a client calls you saying
that they were expecting three different things yesterday, first off you need to realize well,
is that actually what they said? Do you have written documentation to prove that point?
If you made a mistake, obviously, you should apologize and try and rectify that as soon
as possible. An emergency with your hardware or software, say your computer crashes. In
the event of any kind of technical emergency, you need to remain calm because if you start
to panic, you're not going to be able to start troubleshooting and you're not going to be
able to start problem solving. Obviously, in any home studio situation, a lot of things
can go wrong. A lot of things can go haywire. When it comes to anything like this, you want
to make sure that you identify what the problem was, see what happened and take the steps
immediately to solve the problem so that it won't happen again. Usually, a client is very
understanding when it comes to any given emergency. It just happened; you didn't expect it to
so obviously they're going to give you the benefit of the doubt. If you have an emergency
which seems to happen more than once, you might want to consider your setup, consider
your work habits, anything at all that could have led to this emergency which has happened
more than once so that you can make sure that it doesn't happen again.
