Around eighteen bushfires are continuing to rage across Australia's southeast, despite
the alert level being downgraded by local authorities.
Fires across the states of Victoria and New South Wales have affected vast areas of land
with many homes and buildings left completely destroyed.
Emergency services are at work on the ground and special helicopters are dropping large
water bombs across flame-drenched areas from the sky.
The bushfires have broken through containment lines, helped along by strong winds which
are spreading the flames.
With temperatures reaching higher than 40 degrees Celsius, authorities have warned that
bushfires in Victoria could continue to burn at least until March.
