Hey, it's Bauer, and sitting here, next to me,
is literally the ultimate, sort of, Home Media Center starter machine ever,
especially for the price. I mean, in fact, i'm going to give you a second
to go have a look at the price, and then come on back.
Alright, see? Now, we've got that established... it's an extraordinary value,
and when you hear what's actually in this computer it is insanely perfect for starting out
and building your media center from. I mean, it's amazing.
And, i'll tell you why right now. It's got a Phenom AMD triple-core 8400 processor,
so it's three cores, running at 2.1 gigahertz, built into the machine here.
It's got two-gigabytes of DDR2 RAM, which can be expanded up to four gigabytes./
It's got a 320-gigabyte SATA hard drive built into it, it has an 18x DVD-RW drive,
with Labelflash built in, so it will label your dvds as well,
burn those images into the front of your dvds... it has a 15-in-1 media reader up here,
it has-- it will literally read 15 different cards--
anything you can throw at this thing, pretty much, it will be able to read it.
It's got a couple USB ports up here as well, there's also, actually, an IR receiver--
a little tiny IR receiver built in right there, and i'll show you how some of that stuff
is going to work here in just a few moments. Down here, at the media panel,
there is a portable media drive bay, so you can use the Gateway Portable Media drive there,
it also has firewire, it has a microphone input, it has headphones, and it has video in
and your left and right audio ins right there, because it does do
capturing and it does have a TV-tuner card built in.
And that is a digital ATSC TV-tuner card that's built in to this computer.
It has the integrated Radeon 3200 graphics chip on board,
so, you know, not a total 3D-graphics powerhouse, but a pretty poweful integrated chip
that's built into this. It does have tons of room
for expansion. The motherboard has one PCI-X 1 slot,
it has a PCI-X 16 slot, and it has two PCI-Express slots...
not all of those are available, because there's gear inside this thing,
but they are there. So, let me also show you
a few of these things that we have before I take you to the inside
of the computer. It's got a very nice wired keyboard
with a nice wristpad down here. It's a multimedia keyboard,
so it does have all of your media controls built into it right here
as well as your quicklaunch buttons as well, it has an optical mouse right here,
with a nice scrollwheel, it also has-- this is your IR blaster,
this is an IR blaster and receiver, you can use it to control
all of the various components and also use the included remote right here.
So it does come with a media center remote as well. If you've been owning computers
that have media center, and if you have Vista
you have media center, you may have been wondering,
'God, what in the world do I use this for?
You know it's not my desktop, it's not my laptop,
this-- a computer like this is what you use use Vista's media center functions for.
You can, with this remote, you'll be able to use this computer
as a DVR, you'll be able to watch TV on it, you'll be able to watch
all of your downloaded movies, you'll be able to listen to all of your music,
and you can do it all integrated into your home theatre system,
and you can do it all with the built-in remote with this computer.
So again, for the price of this thing, this is extraordinary.
I mean, the amount of functionarlity you get out of this computer,
for the price that it's available at is absolutely incredible.
Now, let's go ahead and take a look at the back so you can see all of the connections
that are available to you on this particular PC. You get your PS2 mouse and keyboard ports here,
it does have HDMI, another thing that makes this thing perfect
as a starter media center computer, it'll plug right into your Hi-Def TV
that has HDMI inputs on it. It also has a VGI port as well,
on the back you're going to find four more USB ports, another firewire port,
and your ethernet port as well. It does do 7.1 surround sound,
and that's all right here... this is your TV tuner card,
this is where you plug in your coax cable so you can get your digital television signal
either through your cable system or over the air,
and also your modem is also located down here, so--
also, if you look over here, this is your IR blaster port,
it does come with a couple of little IR blaster dongles
that will be able to control all of your home theatre components, actually.
This computer can be configured to control your home theatre components
like your stereo system, like your cable box,
you will actually be able to, you know, record through your cable box,
control your cable box from this computer--
media center will actually do all of that.
So let's go ahead and take a look at the inside now as well,
so you can just kind of get an idea of what's going on inside the box here.
Your hard drive is located right over here, that is a 320-gigabyte hard drive
and there is room for another hard drive in there should you want to add another one,
the AMD Phenom processor is located right here on the board,
right here, this little card that you're seeing right here, that will actually be
the IR blaster, right below that is the TV-tuner card,
and then down here, tucked away in here is your modem card.
Now, of course, if you need to free up some expansion space,
that'll probably be the first thing to go. But the computer is well laid-out,
you can see that it has lots of internal SATA ports as well,
and also room to expand your memory right here. So there is lots of room
for expansion inside this computer. That's why this is an extraordinay machine
to start off with to build a media center at home. And, while it's not in a typical media center case
it will still look fine right around your home theatre system
and it's just, for the price, I mean, you just can't beat this,
especially for the components you get, for the speed you get,
and for everything that comes along with it this is the perfect place--
and it's not really just the perfect place to start,
it is a perfect media center sort of right out of the box
that gives you lots and lots of room to be able to expand it
and to turn it into, you know, the media center that you've always dreamed of.
This can do it. It's the Gateway GM5688E,
with a Phenom triple-core processor, two-gigabytes DDR2 RAM,
320-gigabyte hard drive, nice, fast DVD-RW drive as well
and of course the TV-tuner and everything else,
the very nice remote and the built-in IR blasters,
it's all here, and you're going to find it all
with the Gateway GM5688E. Go have at it and have fun
building this thing into your home theatre set up.
