Hi, Im Diego Ioverno race operations manager for Ferrari team
and this is the Inside Track for China GP
China is quite challenging there is very different parts on the circuit
the first part very technical very slow corners
The thing that stands out most in China is turn one
Turn one is more than a 180-degree corner its extremely long.
And then the second and third part is very, very fast one of the longest straights of the championship
but then you need minimum drag and you would like to change the set up of the car in the middle of the lap
You cannot do it obviously.
The layout for the driver for example its a circuit we like
because there are some really challenging corners, turn one
and a couple more that are very long and its even challenging physically for the driver.
In the past China in the first years that I remember was very tough for the driver
as well because of the load on the arms in the first two, three corners
that are quite quick in braking
One of the key characteristics of the circuit at China are the long straights
and that really highlights the requirement of top performance
from the fluids we provide to Scuderia Ferrari
Whereas in Malaysia you may complain or be worried about hot weather
in China its totally the opposite its been to an extreme whereby most tires didnt even work
They were just running in too cold temperatures.
The fuels are optimised to give the best performance
this can be fuel efficiency and power at high temperature and high speeds.
What is most important is usually to find the proper compromise
the proper balance between down force and drag
It's a nice track
