This is one blind date with a difference.
Karmal, an Asiatic lion has been introduced to his new mate at Chessington World of adventures.
Heartbroken lioness Rani has been awaiting a new mate since previous King of Chessington,
Ashok, sadly passed away in 2015,
The new male lion has traveled all the way from Canada for the set up and is part of
an endangered species breeding programme at the resort.
In the wild, fewer than 500 Asiatic lions remain. The majority of these rare lions inhabit
the Gir Forest National Park of western India,
The zoo are delighted at their new resident which is more than can be said for lioness
It might be early days but the zoo are hopeful that in time they will be hearing the pitter
patter of tiny lion cub paws.
