Hi, i'm Joe and here is the 31DOVER.COM guide to Rum.
Rum is the spirit of the Carribean and the taste of carnival.
It is made from sugar cane and was first distilled in the seventeenth century and is
produced in light, dark and golden variety.
Each have their own place in a well stocked bar.
Light rums are used commonly in cocktails and are aged for a long time. English-speaking
islands tend to produce dark Rums which have a much stronger flavour. They are aged longer
in charred barrels, you can taste hints of spice with strong overtones of molasses.
This type of Rum became associated with pirates and the British Navy,
therefore it is often called Navy Rum.
Golden Rums are aged somewhere in between light and dark Rums and are perfect to sip on their own.
Look for notes of raw sugar, honey and spice. The perfect introduction to Rum
would be a Cuba Libre.
Made with golden Rum and cola.
Fill a glass nice and full with ice,
pour yourself a double shot of golden Rum,
plenty of fresh lime
and top with cola.
Your mouth will soon be dancing to the sunkissed rhythms of Havana.
The Cuba Libre.
