Hello Nova and Tito
-Hello
I heard that after kicksledding this past winter
you're quite keen on continuing kicking in the summertime
Yes, the snow melted and I thought I'd switch kicksledding to kickbiking
What sort of goals do you have for kickbiking this summer?
Mostly endurance trips with the dog on the side of the kickbike
but I'm also interested in trying some pulling excercises
Ok, I'd suggest we first train with the dog running on your side
Because you're already familiar with the kickbike,
I think we can just go try it out and see how it goes with the dog
We have developed this dog pulling adapter, especially for kickbiking
It has a spring that's holding the leash,
so it doesn't get tangled in the wheel
The idea behind walking the dog to the side of the kickbike is,
that the dog nor the leash can get in front of the bike
One important thing to remember is to connect the leash to a collar
and not a harness, because then it will nullify what the adapter does,
so use a short enough leash, so the dog can't get in front of the bike
and the dog is also easier to handle with a short leash
I'd suggest teaching dogs the most basic commands, and that's directions
right, left and a stop command
These commands are pretty simple and any dog should learn them quickly
Just keep repeating the commands on walks and at a crossroad and such
and little by little the dog will learn to react to the commands
Stop!
The dog stayed under control quite well
but he started to gallop a bit and you should perhaps tug on
his leash a little bit and repeat to him that you want him to trot
just repeat the word "trot", or whatever your command word is
and always a little tug when the dog starts to gallop
Ok, we're finished with Tito's first training session
and now we need to rehydrate to recover faster for the next activity
Everything looked good today and next time we'll try dog pulling
