Tascam effe w 1884 sound card , mixer and controller
Versatile , practical, robust and with a great sound .
Last drive issued for widows 7 32 bit and 64 bit Snow Leopard .
I had it for years in the studio. Here's a little trip through the functions.
We are on XP and this is the control panel, in this case the FE8 tab, I'll show you later the controller functions.
From here you can manage the routing of the large amount of exits and entrances to duplicate...
... the analogical audio on the ADAT, the coaxial, the SPDIF, manage the sounds "from - to".
...
It therefore allows a great agility to transform your Studio setup and reconfigure it depending on the project.
...
Here the controls of the controller, pardon the pun...
to control the internal mixer sliders by physical hardware, following the HUI standards or Mackie or native Cubase/Nuendo.
In addition to set the clock latency and the management of the stereo master monitor...
on the first 6 or all 8 analog outputs ( for example, for a Dolby Setup in the room.
...
Using Nuendo as a test for example, we see the connection management, to assign channels...
This is just the panel output , then there are those inputs...
that include the digital ADAT and SPDIF . Here's the back with a line in Mike Phantom powered 48v...
... the insert, 4 midi in and out, the BNC word clock , the ADAT...
... and all other outputs.
Always interface of the software (here Nuendo but on each sequencer is there something similar).
From here you realize the setting for connecting the controller and for the allocation of the audio driver.
...
The mixer, controls the physical virtual tracks, both midi and audio through a long stroke motorized faders: it handles everything...
... even the pan-pot, mute...
Now you will see and listen ...
the mixer playing a track and the automations on the volume controls track by track. Automation was made in "brutal way"...
... made just to make you listen how too and to see the hardware response and velocity.
Just the bass, the guitar track, the drums...
the movements was made earlier with fingers on the hardware sliders.
Even listening to the individual tracks is physically manageable, just press the solo button...
And not only 8 tracks: you can navigate through the project by 8 tracks at a time. And cover the mix of the whole project.
...
Talking about the mixer! Pressing the button "monitor mix ...
you activates the mixer functions, which works even when there is not connected the sequencer.
You can record or listen to 8 analogical tracks, connected by the back panel...
guitars, keyboards, CD players, analogical sources... than checking what you want to hear.
Volume controls for cueing room, headphones...
The controller can manage the the automations volumes (and more than this) also in virtual instruments tracks driven from the midi inputs.
Other controls to check or change the status of the machine: clock, type of automation...
status read, write, touch, monitor input on the side of analogue or digital or both...
Manage the inputs routings, in addition to the control of the vu-meter leds with decay function , hold, reset...
The control panel is opened by a button on the side of the consolle.
Back to the mixer: it can handle both analog and digital inputs to listen to any input
you decide you want to put on a monitor or recording channel , ADAT or digital .
The classic buttons control play rec and stop, in and out to jump on markers positions, and in addition...
the roller that moves the cursor within the time line with the best precision.
Where the cursor is moved in the time line, the motorized sliders will find the position memorized (write-touch) during the mix.
...
The Rec Button: arm the audio tracks you want record than ... record.
Now let's take a look all'FE8, the extension of the controller that increases to 16 channels
steerable, or provides 8 channels to handle while leaving free the analogical mixer department (or adat input, digital...)
... to handle input signals during a real live recording.
Tascam FW 1884, and FE8 , still a gem! Active drivers for windows 7 32 and 64-bit
or 32-bit Mac OSX up to Snow Leopard .
Discontinued but a priceless object for those who have the appropriate space in the studio
and want to make a great impression with customers.
