Filming TV shows, ads and movies
that feature alcohol, tobacco and toilet paper
is a no-go on Ngati Whatua land.
The iwi has blacklisted the items as part of the guidelines
for filming on land owned by Ngati Whatua
alongside the council's film protocol, which outlines
what can and cannot be filmed on council land.
The iwi senior management says
it may allow the filming of toilet paper advertisement
on certain parts of its land,
however sacred places like the crater are out of bounds.
It's a move they say can help prevent the misuse
of iwi history and legends,
but the biggest problem they have
is the damage left by film crews on these historical sites.
