Service comes in many different forms, expected and unexpected
composed of many parts and experiences.
Like a mosaic, each piece is different but yet it is composed to make one picture.
While serving others, the over all picture creates one form...God.
To be honest, I don't have one specific passion
but instead I use my many different talents and interests to serve others.
Servant leadership is about using the talents and
passions God gave you to better serve your community.
As a "Girls on the Run" coach, I combine my love for running
with my passion for kids, to help young girls gather self confidence
and positivity as they enter those oh so rough middle school years.
Servant leadership is about stepping outside your comfort zone.
As I traveled to San Joya de les Chiles in April,
I practically butchered the spanish language, as the families
in Costa Rica had only ever heard English on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
As the first week carried on however, the language
barrier began to diminish as I spent my days renovating
a near by health clinic and playing "who's rojo who's verde" with the kids.
Although I had been sweating since I had arrived and
mosquito bites were strewn across my entire body,
I was able to set aside my discomforts to better serve the small community.
Servant leadership is about leading others to God through service.
For the past 2 years, I have been able to teach a faith formation class
at St. Mark Catholic Church.
Through teaching a lesson each week, I combine my love
for kids and my talent of teaching into one service.
Servant leadership is about using your talents
to serve your community, and ultimately, God!
As Abdu'l Baha once said, "Service to humanity
is service to God. Let the love and light of the
kingdom radiate through you until all who look
upon you shall be illumined by this reflection."
God uses each one of us to serve him, but it is up to
us to take the initiative. Servant leadership is about
taking that initiative, running with it, and letting
others receive enjoying God's wonderful gift of life!
