I ended up on academic probation, because of lack of discipline. So how's that 4.0 going
to impact...
I stayed here because that's what my parents wanted me to do. I didn't have that desire
to really be here and it reflected in my grades.
I was basically a habitual skipper. My social life became more important than my schooling.
My freshman year, I came into school thinking it was a game, so I partied and I went out
and I didn't really focus on my grades.
When I found out that I was on probation, it was a scare basically, because my parents
had put so much money in my education and they wanted me to achieve and all of that
would've been for nothing if I would've been kicked out.
When I got the notice in the mail, my heart basically dropped. It was very disheartening
and I had a fear of that I was failing and I didn't want that feeling.
Once I became on academic probation and was on the verge of being suspended, I knew that
it was serious and so that's where CARES came in and they really assisted me with getting
back on track with my academics and everything.
The CARES office has helped me tremendously. I am a person that needs structure, so the
weekly meetings, the mapping out everything, the organization, those things allowed me
to be a successful student.
CARES has really helped me to plan out semesters and the semesters that I have upcoming so
that I can be successful.
This is the term GPA...
I had to visit CARES program once a week and visit Ms. McPherson and I had to give her
all my paperwork at school, I had to show her all my grades, all my test scores, she
was in contact with my teachers.
CARES came in and they really assisted me with getting back on track with my academics
and everything. It just gave me a sense of someone actually cares about my education,
probably more than I did at the moment, so once I realized that, I knew it was time to
take things more seriously.
What kind of a schedule are you going to put yourself on
I changed my surroundings and the people I hung around. It was kind of hard for me to
let go of those friendships, but if they weren't going in the direction that I was trying to
go in, then I had to let them go.
It's a matter of just taking initiative and seeing your end goals and taking it from there.
Utilizing the CARES program resources and having the initiative to go forward and meet
your goals.
To stay in academic good standing, I've become involved on campus. Being involved on campus,
you have to have a certain GPA to do what you want to do and so I have maintained that
GPA to become involved and then work with other people that are trying to succeed just
like I'm trying to succeed.
Setting up meetings with...
The day I get that diploma, it's going to be an amazing feeling for me, because I did
it.
To see where I started and to even see where I'm at now, and just to imagine the day of
graduation is going to be emotional, I know I'm going to be happy, to see my moms reaction
and my family, and just to see my CARES family reaction, it's going to make me emotional,
but you know, it's going to be happy tears.
