points of emphasis for officials first
the seat belt rule
i think we need to have some consistency across our officials in tri-county with
the way you call this
coaches should be seated when they coach
they can stand to call a time out they can stand to teach players down on the
bench
and they can stand to applaud a great play
other than that they should be seated.
If they're giving you an opinion every time
you run by them they should be seated and not do it standing.
I would suggest giving them a warning
and um... kind of draw the standard and if they don't listen to that then I think
you should give them a technical foul.
Another point of emphasis is
mentoring.
Tri County officials we're trying to get as many young officials involved
as we can
because our officials like all of us is an aging population are not going to be
around forever
and we need to get some young people involved and so mentoring them with the
mechanics of the game
and how the game flows and blowing their whistle and positioning. All of
those things I think are really important things to pass down from our
veteran officials to our young officials.
Another point of emphasis I believe is
the league rules.
A lot of people don't understand at the fourth and fifth grade levels there are
limitations.
Kids can only play half court defense ahhh there's no outright
trapping, there's no doubling, it's help and recover defense. The last two
minutes of each game
anything goes it's normal basketball.
At the sixth seventh and eighth grade level uh... its basketball.
The only limitation at the six grade level is once a team is ahead by twenty
points
they have to play half court defense now that can be zone or man.
Seventh and eighth grade levels there's no limitations.
