Israel Avelar's daughter
told me he started this
church, Temple Baptist
about a year ago, but
they had also attended
Clays Mill Road Baptist
Church for years. Now,
that church family is
showing them a lot of
support.
21-year-old Bibiann
Avelar got to Texas
Saturday, with the help
of the church. Her dad
and three brothers
were all killed in that
crash, and now, she's
trying to stay strong
for her mom, Hilda,
and sister, Kimberly,
who are both still in
hospitals. She saw her
mom for the first time
since the crash today.
"She recognized me
and knew that i was
there. She's in a lot of
pain, i think right now.
A lot of medications
that they've had her on
and she's trying to take
everything in, I think,"
And Kimberly's getting
better.
"Kimberly's doing really
good. Today, actually,
they're going to take
her off the ventilator
she's been on. She's
breathing on her own
now,"
Bibiann had the tough
job of telling her little
sister what happened.
"She asked me about it
yesterday and I told
her. She's a tough girl.
We cried a little bit, but
took it very well,"
"it wasn't easy telling
my sister what
happened yesterday,
but God gave me the
strength to do it,"
But her mom still
doesn't know. They'll
break it to her when
she's a little more
aware.
In the meantime,
Bibiann says she can't
thank her church family
enough. She's seen
them help a lot of
families over the years,
but she never expected
to be on this end of
things.
"it's so much different
when it's actually you,
you know? It's just
been such a blessing. I
don't think I can ever
have the words to
thank them properly
because ti means so
much. all the prayers,
everything they've
done, getting me
here,"
