I had thyroid cancer in 2009, gained a significant amount of weight, was on a CPAP machine, you
name it, I had it. They had tested every organ I had, biopsied three-quarters of them. I
mean, this was test after test after "We're not sure what's going on." It was very frustrating
for me. I had horrible swelling. My legs would completely swell. I couldn't walk. It was
really traumatic. Sean started treating me for some hip issues and lower back. I would
come in about every two weeks. In the course of being treated, I had mentioned to him that
I was thinking about having bariatric surgery. When I told him about what was going on, it
was just a passing comment. He just said, "Can you tell me a little bit more?" I was
listing the drugs I was on. I was on about eight different medications. A lot of them
had to do with acid reflux and digestion issues, that kind of thing. He suggested that I try
this natural acid to increase -- everything I was on was decreasing the acid in my stomach
or digestive system. He just mentioned he had read an article and maybe this would help
me. He wasn't suggesting I do it but it might work for me, that it made sense. I said, "Okay,
I'll do it. I can't get any more miserable than I already am." Within the first week
and a half, I had started to lose a little bit of weight, which was not even something
we had talked about. My digestion started to level off. I was completely off all the
medication. Within three months, I was completely off the CPAP machine. That was almost two
years ago and I have lost about 100 pounds. When I say I was off of it, I mean from that
week and a half on, I never used any of it ever again. From eight pills to just Synthroid,
which I have to have because I don't have a thyroid -- he can't fix that, that I know
of, or maybe he can. He's so knowledgeable about not just "Let me pop your back" or "Maybe
I can relieve a little bit of this pressure." He has such a vast understanding of the things
that are intertwined. Because I don't have a thyroid, the metabolism -- I was scheduled
to have another two medications added to my regime. One little mention to him changed
my entire life. If someone asked me why they should come and see him, it's hard to tell
someone, "This hurts. I did this." Maybe you're not exactly proud of why your back is hurting
or what you did at that particular time that got you there, but in order for a doctor to
be able to treat you properly, you have to be able to trust them and open up parts of
yourself that maybe aren't very comfortable. I couldn't think of anyone that cares more,
that's easy to talk to, that if you picked up the phone and said, "I came in. I'm not
feeling right," he would be there in a heartbeat. I don't know a lot of doctors let alone a
lot of chiropractors that can claim to have changed someone's life. He's an amazing, amazing
doctor.
