Growing up is tough. You just want to fit in. And kids can be really mean sometimes,
especially if you're not like everyone else. They'll bully you. Call you names. They'll
call you a ***. They'll call you a ***. And sometimes parents don't understand what
you're going through. But we're here to tell you, it gets better. It gets better. It gets
better. It gets better. It gets better. It truly, it truly gets better. Whether or not
you are near a visible LGBT community, you are already part of a family full of people
who love you unconditionally. I'm a part of that family, and I care about you whether
or not we'll ever meet. There are people in the LGBTQ community who are here for you.
See the numbers on the screen? Call immediately if you're in crisis. You have people who support
you right now and we're waiting to help you. So know this deep in your heart. You are a
child of God. So don't give up. Don't throw in the towel. You're not alone. Your entire
future is in front of you. There are people who care. We care. We care about you. You
have so much to live for. And you can do whatever you want to do. Here at UCSF, you can be a
nurse. A doctor. A pediatrician. A researcher. A scientist. A fundraiser. A leader. Or whatever
you want to do. But you have to LIVE. We know what you're going through. We went through
it ourselves. Struggling with who we are, figuring out our *** orientation or gender
identity. Coming out can be really, really scary. We made it through and so can you.
We want you to succeed. We want you to be you. You may feel like you're all alone. But
we care and we love you. We love you. We love you. No matter what other people might say.
You are perfect just the way you are. There are others who are just like you. I can honestly
say, it does get better. Just remember, if you're trans, you're not alone. You're not
alone. I promise we're not lying. We're telling you the honest truth. I'm 60 years old and
I tell you, it just gets better. It gets better. It gets better. It gets better. We've been
together for 25 years and it does gets better. It gets better (in Spanish). It gets better
(in Chinese). It gets better (in Hindi). It gets better (in German). It gets better (in
Tagalog). It gets better (in Arabic). It gets better (in Korean). It gets better (in American
Sign Language). Your life can be truly extraordinary but you have to be determined, you have to
have hope, you have to believe in yourself, and you have to reach out to your extended
family. We're here. We love you. Hang tough.
