hey guys today we're going to be learning how to make this beautiful
kitchen towel with the Christmas theme
you could make loads at these as Christmas presents and save lots of
money
so let's get started. To start off this project
when need towel, I'm just gonna hold it close up and
the tag says this is 50cm x 90 cm
500 GSM good quality hand towel
and we need an open end zip, I have taken
20 inch open end zip, this is ever so slightly
longer than the towel unfortunately this is how it comes
In inches which is like 16
18, 22, it wont come as odd numbers like 19 inches so we have to either take
eighteen or twenty so I have chosen a twenty inch, I'll try another project with a
size 18 zip later on with a little bit of shape
so for the fabric have taken this beautiful Christmas print
I have cut out two rectangular pieces and I also have got 2 white
pieces which is a 100 percent cotton fabric as
lining that goes inside I just felt these these fabrics a pretty expensive I
didn't want to waste it so I thought
by putting the lining in plain cotton fabric I'll be saving a little bit of money
so anyway let's get started. okay first things first
you can see that I'm usually the
towel comes with a label and then
the edging we gonna cut of this edging. this is going to form
a bulky seam. if you want to you can leave the label
on but I really don't need it so I'm just gonna cut this
where you have the stretch effect it actually stretch just a little little
bit
which is perfect for our project because then I can stretch and cannot kinda make
it
like 20 inches. so basically I have cuts out
the rectangular pieces and perfect perfect rectangular pieces about an inch
on either side okay so we don't need to do anything on the towel right now
just cut off the two edges and we going to work on this
and then come back and work with towel later. l so
before I do anything else I'm just gonna arrange my fabric
said those are the two strips of my Christmas presents
so basically I'm just going to fold it into half
of and just make a notch mark
and going do the same thing for this one okay
now let's just open the zip
and basically I have
tacked the edge, I'm just going to hold it close so you can see
so thats have it looks like
have done little machine stitch just attached the end like this
side
just go till the beginning to the end and is it
and you can actually make a left to launch my don't make it to be
otherwise you're going to lose and end up having
losing the seam allowance so I have just made a very very very tiny
notch mark okay so we're gonna do the same for this one because once
your centre mark is perfect it's absolutely fine you can just go ahead
and
do this okay
I just take Christmas print
and this is as you can see it's the right side
my zip needs to be on the right hand side
like this okay, this is very important because otherwise
if you if you're not careful you end up sewing the wrong side of the zip
so you have to watch this I will try and do a
close-up, if you're not sure then just go ahead and put the zip
together then you'll know which is the right side
so match the right sides
and flip it over
just place a pin, flip it over again
take one part of you're lining and
match the notch and then maybe
just three more your pin and reconnect because this is such a thin layer of
fabric you really don't need to do one at a time like the bags we did before
but if you're not confident just go ahead and sew
the main fabric first and then come back and sew again aligning both.
it's entirely up to you but I'm just gonna do it all at once because this is
pretty easy to do
so basically I'm just going to go and hold it like this
and that's where my zip is sitting and
now go and sew 1/8 stitch and this could be a quarter inch also
if you wish to sew close to the zip.
you can't do that because you got allowance to do it
now let me just go and remove the other part of the zip
because having a puller just makes it really difficult to
sew sometimes, just going to go and do it on
this side basically I'm just gonna go place it like this
go and sew a straight stitch like it is a little trick I would like to tell you
basically we all start from the beginning here
we just go on nest the zip in between the two layer of fabrics
it's almost like sandwich, zip is sitting between the two layer of fabric
if you're a beginner then what you could
actually do is because this is always tricky to start in the beginning here so
what I find it easy it would be to just start a little bit further away
maybe couple inches away and then I start sewing
this is where we started
now i turn it around and just go and sew
from here till the end
I'm really sorry about the who the noise because my
husband is
doing hovering when I'm doing the project he's a right pain in the backside
anyway I'm sure you agree that most husbands are like that but they
want to do their own thing when we want to do something
sorry about that okay so
so I thought I'd show you because you will get stuck because we have got
a pull-up at this site and it's always difficult to stitch a straight stitch
so this works really perfectly so what I start off and
about couple of inches away
and then I start from here go and sew all the way through
and then turn this around push the sides
and then I've gotta flat surface just to go and sew
till the end get this what I'm gonna do I'm not going to film this
I'm just gonna do that and come back and show you what to do next
this piece and also this piece have already finished one side of my towel
this is what we're going to do to the side as well, so I am gonna show you
step-by-step
why I came up with the idea
the set so anyway let me go ahead and show you what we do
with this panel I purposely used the one
I'm now pull your
zipper puller into the center and then
flip this over like it was before and
we have already sewn this all we need to do is
go and sew right to the edge
disappear now when you this side is okay because we don't have any pull up
and that's just the end of the tape so that is absolutely fine
but when you sew this side we have got
the puller the zip and which means
your I'm zipper for it can't go over this
which is very tricky so just watch my machine
you need to change that needle position slightly
further away to the edge if you fit
I don't know how it is when your machine so just need to go back to guide
and find out but let me go ahead and show you basically
right to the edge leaving to sew a straight stitch here and then
okay
so before we go ahead and do the straight stitch
we also need to think about how are we going to finish to talk
we will bag this out later but I found an easy easy way
so so basically
the edge of my fabric panels I just fold
good half to three-quarters of an inch
because that will give me quite a good fold
to go and so on top later on so and then I just go on
the measurement this panel and the with this panel have put it in the
Description box below
but if you wanted you could taken slightly wider fabric
I have made this onto for fat quarter so have got
one more set I can do with the same fat quarter so this
this fabric this Christmas fabric is hall of fat quarter
so I'm just gonna turn this over and then
just make sure your fold is perfectly perfectly
aligning with top player on the bottom layer
the fabric because otherwise later on you will see that you will
and up having to do unpicking
okay so just make sure when you fold it
this is perfectly aligned and one no longer than the other done make it like
that again
then just go and so a stitch
so this l will remain the same we don't need to open the fold just go and
so
a straight stitch on both the edges up
okay you can see that this is to bolster
of my zipper foot here I have to place
my zipper foot there but this still about quarter of an inch gap here
so what I do I just quickly
I just change the needle position can you see how my needle shifts
so you need to find something like this in your machine to do it
and then when I place it dad goes really really close to
edges my end of the zipper end
so this is what you need to do I'm gonna put my camera back on my tripodt
and then show you
up at the edges you've got too much of a break some way to trim
leaving about half an inch of allowance so
let's turn this corners
can you see that corner is perfectly aligned with the edge if the zipper
so that's the kinda finish we are looking for
this up and basically take a towel
and overlap it by about spending
from this end overlap it by about an inch
and
just make sure it's straight so the side seams a straight
now bill without moving this pocket
I'm just going to place this and
and just make sure
in its evenly alligned and this is in a straight line
ones you happy with the result just go ahead and
pin to the towel into the fabric
so perfectly aligned if you have to stretch it our all.
little bit so that it fits perfect into fabric just do so because you had to
stability in the terry towel
I'm gonna start a few inches away for the edge
the fabric in the lining and you know if my
mu as you sow safe your about quadrant
your back or to integrate and you don't have the danger of not catching the
bottom fabric
so gonna start this stage from here and then I
go top stitch all the way quarter-inch and quarter-inch
and then I just make a complete rectangle because
you really don't need it you could just do this im leavin
however this is something that people would use again and again and go through
the washing machine again and again
so as your and as you watch this Court in fabrics
then there is a danger of this it catching the lining
or the main fabric so too would that if you put a stop states no matter how much
you use
that won't happen okay so let's go ahead
and do a top stitch I'm not going to start to write to the beginning because
then it might just leave a little bit of pocket like that so
I'm going to go and start a few inches away from
the beginning what I'm gonna do I'm going to alignment
edge of my for it to the edge of the fabric
and put my needle right to the edge this because I shifted money to the spy
sup get a quarter for an instant
so as you sow let's just make sure
that you're holding both the back in the front of
the fabric because this stuff because it got so much to strength as a terry towel
on because you have to almost 1,2,3,4,5 laser fabric needs to move
sometimes it doesn't move on the bottom fabric will get wrinkly
so to avoid that just hold both of them together
now we have some the other side
you will see though we started off quarter from and
away from the edge the other side the
same is quite close to the edge of my lining fabric
this is what happens that's why we need to so bad
cool prevention away quarter from into a then you'll be fine
so let me just put this back in and
closed on and they are there's a beautiful
Christmas tea towel or Christmas kitchen towel is
ready now this would this would make an absolutely beautiful gift
nobody would expect something like this because you can find this in the market
these days
not because it anyway so go head
and make loads and loads at this and save lots of money on your Christmas
present
