Batang Gilas vs China 2018 One of the teams that give us difficulty in
basketball is defeated by Batang Gilas in the group stage of the Under 18 FIBA Asia
Championship in Thailand.
This win against China makes the future looks bright for Philippine Basketball, when Batang
Gilas becomes the Gilas Pilipinas, as they compete in 2023, when Philippines hosts the
FIBA Basketball World Cup for the first time.
Do their older brothers in Gilas feel pressure because of this win?
Gilas will play China first in the Asian Games.
Isn’t that exciting?
According to coach Yeng, if Gilas cannot eliminate China, it’s a must that they win against
Kazakhstan so they could move to the next round.
Gilas was supposed to play Iran first but because Palestine backed out, and we also
backed out then joined again, the Philippines was made to face China.
According to coach Yeng, he feels comfortable going against Iran first.
And I agree, because Gilas will face the same Iranian team on September 13, for the next
window of the FIBA Asia Qualifiers.
It should have been a chance for them to scout the play of Iran.
And as I said on my previous video, there is a possibility that this current Gilas would
be the same lineup for the FIBA Qualifiers since the original players are still suspended.
But there would be some changes of course when Junmar Fajardo is included in the lineup
but I think majority of them will remain.
That’s why it was hard for me to understand why SBP decided to back-out at first when
the Asian Games could be used as a tune-up game for Gilas.
For sure, strong teams will be in the event because they would want to gauge their readiness
for their own entry in the FIBA Asia Qualifiers.
So it’s a good thing that Gilas is already going to Indonesia.
And when their campaign becomes successful, this would give them more confidence when
September comes.
They badly need it due to their short preparation time.
So going back to Batang Gilas.
They now have a 3-0 record and they are number one in their group.
They also defeated UAE and Lebanon.
On this game against China, Dave Ildefonso led the Batang Gilas with 18 points.
Final score, 73-63.
