Treating spills and accidents is a mainstay of carpet care. If you leave spills you will promote soiling and in the long run it will be more expensive to fix.
If you see a spill on carpets, you want to immediately treat the carpet stain.
The steps are simple. Initially you want to scrape off and remove any excess material. Next you want to blot
with some paper toweling the remaining substance, and next you'll want to rinse the area
with water. Allow water to soak the carpet stain. Next apply carpet cleaning solution and gently agitate the area.
You should never rub spills or carpet stains as this will cause the stain to spread
Use gentle agitation instead and blot any excess material. Rinse again with water and blot again.
Special stains require special treatment. For example for grease or oil based stains you follow the same steps
After rinsing you want to use specific solutions, so in this case use specific paint / oil / grease solvents
Coffee and tea stains also have special stain removers.
Biological stains like vomit, blood, and urine also have specialised cleaning solutions with a low pH.
Interim cleaning is a more intensive cleaning carried out at less frequent intervals than regular cleaning like vacuum cleaning
Interim cleaning usually involves low moisture carpet cleaning, what was known in the past as dry carpet cleaning
Steam cleaning can be used in high traffic areas.
Low moisture carpet cleaning involves the following stages: first you must vacuum the areas to remove excess soil and dirt
and then you apply the cleaning solution which is usually a powder.
Gently brush or agitate the material so it works its way down into the carpet fibers
and then vacuum the carpet to remove the dirt together with the cleaning agent.
The cleaning agents attract both oil and water based substances which bind to the soiling agents, which are lifted up when you vacuum clean over it.
