Now, Let's welcome the top instructor of Comp & IT Dept voted by students
who has obtained an astonishing number of students' votes
an extraordinary number of votes
Mr Khodabandeh [acclaim]
[hugging University President]
We had nominated 11 instructors in the Department
two instructors were chosen by students
Mr Khodabandeh, The mic is yours
Mr Khodabandeh usually doesn't have a good relationship with the mic
But after reading the affidavit today he got familiar with it
Well Ladies & gentelmen
I think you know me well enough [Audience laugh]
Nothing can happen here on campus without my knowledge a weak before
So I almost knew about my recognition as the best Instructor of 2011 by the students
So I'm not surprised as Mr. Asgharpoor, the 2nd top instructor [Audience laugh].
This gave me enough time to prepare a speech.
I hope you'll enjoy it.
Excuse me, Do you mind if it takes 2 to 3 minutes more than usual?
You have all just graduated,
And, you should know that I've just accomplished my mission as the Department Head too
well
So, what I'm trying to say now will not benefit me at all.
they come from deep in my heart.
The title of the text I'm going to read out to you is:
Dwarf in 06 [smile]
The day I came to Mazandaran University of Science & Techonology (MUST)
• The number of students in our Department was about 350,
• There was only one program (Software Engineering); and IT Engineering program had just Begun.
• The number of students who passed the Nation-wide MSc Entrance Exam was almost zero,
though their BSc Entrance Exam's ranks were from 3000 to 8000 [out of about 300,000].
• The student satisfaction index of our Department were 3.09 [out of 4].
• MUST was only well-known for its Industrial Engineering Department;
Comp & IT were not considered a "Department"; No one cares about it.
Today
• The number of students has tripled (about 1050).
• The department offers 5 programs now (Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, IT Engineering, Software Technology Engineering, and Hardware Technology Engineering).
• The students of the department have ranked 1st, 8th, 17th, 64th, 96th, 114th, and 140th in the Nation-wide MSc Entrance Exam,
though their Nation-wide BSc Entrance Exam's ranks were from 8000 to 18000
• The student satisfaction index has jumped to 3.6 [out of 4], a growth of about 0.5
• The IT & Computer department now forms half of MUST (in size and honor).
guys! I've suffered as long as tens of years,
deep in my heart till we reached where we are today. [sobbing]
However, with all these toils endured by me and my colleages,
this outcome couldn't have been achieved if I hadn't learned some key lessons
to pass on to other lectures and students
I think that's why we are here now;
the people I'm going to mention
each have been really effective in where we stand now:
• I've learned from "Dr. Mohammadi" [the best instructor in 2008 and 2009] that
"there is no difference in ability and aptitude between a student of Tehran University and a student of MUST".
• I've learned from "Mr. Hesamifar" [one of the best instructor in 2010]
to sit beside my students and convince them by reasoning, not by showing off power and saying "Like it or lump it".
• I've learned from "Mr. Hashemian" [the best instructor of 2007] that
students do not want you to be superior and them inferior. Rather they expect you to be friendly.
• I've learned from "Dr. Kazemitabar" [a popular instructor of MUST] that
a good Lecturer is one who directs well besides teaching well
• I've learned from "Mr. Rahimpour"
to tolerate students' faults. And what miracles it has done.
• I've learned from "Mr. Paridel" [one of the best instructor of 2010]
to mix lessons with humor.
• I've learned from "Dr. Shiekholeslam" [president of MUST]
that a lecturer shouldn't be cold-hearted. He should be sympathetic and sometimes even involve in resolving students' personal problems.
• I've learned from "Dr. Tajdin" [Vice president- Educational Affairs]
to be straightforward and strongly say "NO" when it's needed. You've heard it a lot from me.
• I've learned from "Mr. Ghasemi" [Vice president- Administrative Affairs]
to share my colleagues' griefs, to help them as if I'm in trouble.
• I've learned from "Mr. Aboukazempour"[Director of Education Affairs]
that there are always solutions to the most complicated problems and that I shoud not panic. What I always did during the first year.
• I've learned from "Dr. Mirnia" [president of Mazandaran Institue of Technology]
that the basis of management is "being well-informed"; there should be no word in any classes of which I'm unaware
• I've learned from "Dr. Nourian" [former president of MUST]
to be strict in scoring, and urge my students to fight for each fraction of their grades.
• I've learned from "Nastaran Naderseresht" [a student]
to help even those with whom I'm angry
• I've learned from "Maedeh Tashakorian" [a student]
to do my job as dutifully as possible even if I feel I'm not understood and no one cares how much I've sacrificed
• I've learned from some of you that
it's not true that a teacher is judged by the grades he assigns,
Show them your interest in their future and it brings back the reward
• I've learned from some of you that
a semester is long enough to move from building applications such as "printing stars or prime numbers" to "Yahoo Chat Server".
• I've learned from [applause] from some of you that
how useful "FACEBOOK" could be for a Department Head [Audiences' laughter]
and you know how it changed our relationships.
And once you take away all these, I will be nothing.
All I do is imitating others.
Today, if I seem taller than other lecturers
it's just because I'm on their shoulders
But, in fact, I'm the same dwarf in 2006.
Good luck [applause]
[applause]
We had asked Mr Khodabandeh several times to read out the affidavit
He agreed to do so after so many requests
He is skillful at pep talk He is, even, threatening my job as anchorman
