Hello, scholars. We're ready to begin Module 2 where we will focus on "Responsibility and
Life of Excess Inherent in the American Dream." Our main questions in this module are: How
do we align our humanity with the American Dream?
What responsibility do humans have to nature? To each other?
How did transcendentalism shape the idea of the American Dream?
And how did the 1920s shape the idea of the American Dream?
An interesting dichotomy occurs in this module as we look at writers like Ralph Waldo Emerson
and Henry David Thoreau who enjoyed nature
and contrast them with F. Scott Fitzgerald who appreciated material things.
You'll also choose a set of 3 pieces and examine humanity through those authors' perspectives.
The entire module will culminate in a four part project where you will assimilate different
media with the different authors' ideas and ultimately come up with your own take on what
it means to be a human looking for the American Dream.
