Hi this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute. One of the worst spots for traffic
congestion in Lexington is going to be improved with a different kind of interchange. The
problem spot is Harrodsburg Road at New Circle Road.
The current interchange will be reconfigured in a design called a “double crossover diamond.”
It will be the first of its kind in Kentucky. Engineers say the innovative design should
reduce congestion and crashes. The video animation you see demonstrates how the current interchange
will be transformed. Construction is expected to start in the next couple of months. In
a double crossover diamond, traffic briefly moves to the left side of the road.
That eliminates the need for left turns across traffic to reach a highway ramp. For more
information on the project, go to the website for Kentucky Department of Highways District
7. The address is on your screen. This has been your KYTC minute. Visit transportation.ky.gov
every Thursday for updated information.
