Radioativo Interviews
Today on Radioativo Interviews the band Steelfox
I'm gonna talk a bit more about this band during the interview, so I'm not gonna talk too much right now
I'm just letting go the record of the interview that I did during this weekend with Juliana and Merianne
Two members of this band with whom I had a nice chat
And you're gonna listen from now on the first Radioativo Interviews of the year the band Steelfox! Here we go!
Today at Programa Radioativo Interview with Steelfox
A Heavy Metal band from Sao Paulo created in 2012, by the bassist Diego Julio.
having as inspiration traditional metal bands from the eighties.
The current members of the band are:
Meri Bondezan on vocals, Guilherme Fernandes, Nuno Braz and Otto Lima on the guitars
Diego Julio on the bass and Juliana Shibata on the drums.
As the first interview of 2013's Programa Radioativo I'm having the joy of talking to two beautiful women!
That's nice, that's nice I started well the year of 2013, right?
Starting with women, not with male briefs as usually, right?
First of all, I wanna thank you girls for your availability and I would like you to introduce yourselves
to our listeners of Programa Radioativo.
What's up guys, I'm Merianne Bondezan, I'm Steelfox's vocalist It's a pleasure to be here with you guys
Thank you for the space you gave us here in your radio program.
Hail people, Programa Radioativo, I'm Juliana Shibata, I'm Steelfox's drummer It's also an honor to be here
and being the first interview of the year!
Thanks a lot, well, let's go!
Let's start with the album, it's the album debut of the band called ''13:18''
It's being recorded and produced by Marcello Pompeu from Korzus (so cool) in his studio Mr. Som in Sao Paulo/SP
And it's gonna be released in the middle of 2013, counting with national, international and online distribution.
I'd like you to talk about this album About the name, how's the process of recording,
How's the work of this album with the guy from Korzus one of the best metal national bands
And all the work of this first cd, how's it being done how's the current situation of this album
Well, 13:18 is our first album, the album debut as you said we'll talk about
topics related to the end of the world following the Mayan prophecy
The name of the album, 13:18 you can make an analogy, but it's a passage of the Bible
Apocalypse 13:18 which says: "Here there's wisdom, who has understanding calculate the number of the beast''
For that's the number of a man and it's number is six hundred and sixty six''
You can make an allusion about which number is the man's number
Nothing more than the man to cause the end of the world
He's the one who keeps causing all these things that happens to the nature etc
So, what else can be done by the man to end the world
Those are some topics that we are going to talk about in our thirteen tracks of the album.
You'll see, as soon as it's released
In some way, the band or even you, expected or expect, as in your lyrics, you said that they talk about it, a new beginning
Not an end, the end was just a way of disseminating this calendar that spreaded around
But a new beginning after the end of the Mayan calendar for the human kind?
Actually, in our musics, no, we didn't think about a new beginning after this cyclo of the Mayan calendar
Actually we thought of retract the end of the world caused by the man, we took the Mayan calendar
That thing that happened last year, that was kinda a racket but we brought lots of manners for the man to destroy the world
It's most of all, to make people understand how we manage to destroy
What are the things that we do, what's the evil that man can cause
Not only for nature and the world, but most of all to itself
Yeah, if you look this way there are lots of ends of the world.
It's most like an awareness.
Yes, kind of it, for the person realize that what causes the end of the world is ourselves, it's inside men
The destruction of the world is in the men.
Allright.
A cool thing is that the band has two women which is a very cool differential.
To see a band with one woman as lead singer is already a big differential
Than what we usually see that's being happening most of the time
But Steelfox has a femmale drummer! That's even cooler
So, I'd like to know from you both
The main influences, to sing, in Merianne's case And on the drums in Juliana's case
Which were the great inspirations at the beginning for you and today who inspire you to do this great work in the band
I began since I was little, I 've always liked to sing My impulse was Whitney Houston followed by Freddie Mercury
'Cuz my father was a Queen's fanatic Then I grew up listenning to, and liking
some of those American Gospel kind of vocals More sung way of voices
And today my main influences are Bruce Dickinson, Dio, James Hetfield, Freddie Mercury and Rob Halford.
Yes, they are all men, believe it or not And they took me, their fusion took me to my own singing style
I even take advantage of my tone of voice Which is a little bit lower, so it worked really well
And from that misture I could make my own style
And my main influences as a drummer, as I didn't begin playing since I was little
Always were and I believe that they always will be
Nicko McBrain, Lars Ulrich, Atsushi Kawatsuka And besides my influences I still have my own way of playing
That influences positively in the band's work Not only with me but with all the members
Each one of them create, from their own influences, their own way of playing
And I think that's really cool, 'cuz exactly for us being uniques Steelfox's music ends up as something unique as well
Nice The first single was already released, it's called “Hail The Hate”.
So I want you to talk a little bit about this song and about the idealization of the videoclip, how was that videoclip made
How was that videoclip planned for this song "Hail the Hate"
Which is the first song released from this cd that's comming soon
So, actually the "Hail the Hate" that we release in the video is not a single
It's just a preview of our album 13:18, that video is not the official videoclip!
The version of the song that is played in the video is not the official that is going to be in the cd.
It's just a preview for people to have an idea of how's gonna be our music!
Yeah, let's say that's just a free sample For everybody to take their impression of how's gonna be our music
This music is already a bit different
And it's very cool, I guarantee it's even better than this one that you've being listenning to
Well, so certainly there's good material comming As we've being seing that the music is very good!
Thanks!
A curiosity, Steelfox has an international endorsement of clothing and gear, called Demonmetals
an Australian company that disseminates Steelfox in Australia. Do you already dream about international flights
concerts in Australia, countries of the Orient like Japan where some Brazilian bands are praticaly taken as Gods
And of course, in Europe, United States, Central America, South America.
I'll tell you guys something about my city, Ajuricaba, it's next to Ijuí
and Ijuí is Krisiun's city, it's a medium to small city.
with about 80 thousand citizens, but it became one of the greatest bands of Brazil in the international scenario
And today they play in lots of festivals and events and they take public wherever they go.
So I want to know from you, what are the expectations and perspectives, having an international endorse
to already think of expand, to reach other places besides Brazil, other continents?
Yeah, actually it's really like you said We do have the intention to expand
Not leaving Brazil out of this, not a chance, We want to perform all over Brazil
From north to south. But yes, we have this idea
We already have our plans to perform outside and take Steelfox for people to know it.
That's right, as soon as the album is launched We'll be ready to schedule our concerts in lots of Brazilian cities.
How does the band control and enjoys having six members that surely have different tastes, ideas and ideals
Specially when it's time to create, How's it controlled, how's it used?
We see some garage bands that can't last too long exactly because of that
people have that kind of taste, someone else have a different taste
The band gives in when that happens, So how the band works those differences to grow and aggregate?
Look, we control this really well, specially because all members get along really well.
This is very well enjoyed, this fact of we being different because that's the cool part, that's what gives us this unique result
And even though we have different tastes, We don't always agree, I'm not gonna say that we agree on everything
We do have one goal in common, that is to make good music, making good Heavy Metal
That pleases not only all the members of the band, but also that we know that is gonna please other ears
And this is something that all the members know how to appreciate and how to do it very well.
We actually, sit, talk, if there's some divergence we let everyone show their point of view
And we don't have this problem of crisis, We sit and we manage to agree and get in a symbiosis
in the ideas and that's how the music comes out really nice, and that's what I think it's cool, everybody participating
and everybody giving their opinions so we manage to make something that pleases everyone 'cuz the cool part is for you to enjoy
Playing when we manage to conciliate this well
How do you see, today, the national scene? What's positive and negative nowadays, specially related to what you used to think
at the beginning when you started to like not only as a band, but before, when you started to like festivals, going to festival
What do you see today inside the scene, being inside the scene
that is different in the ambient, about how to play, what is offered to the band that performs?
The people, everything that involves the current scene
What have you learned when you began to go to festivals and to like the music?
The national metal scene has a lot to grow yet And despite of... Wow, the positive thing is that
there are lots of extremely talented musicians in Brazil, we see that, we listen to them around here
And the negative thing is that they need to value themselves more, not only them, also the organizers of the festivals, concerts
I've been liking lots of them, and I've seen that not always the musicians are being valued
Not always they are receiving what they deserve Sometimes they give more than they get
Yeah, it's like Ju said unfortunately half of the musicians are not well valued in Brazil
But despite of the fact that we have lots of talented people here we see that, people see
So you see, people really liking it, they go there, wearing the shirt
Valuing the band, but there's something missing behind some organizations
Let's not talk about all of them, because there are some people doing it right, but it's still missing this part a little
I think what's missing is to value the musician for it's talent, we value a doctor, an engineer
and a musician is nothing more than a person who also is there
Who also fights and struggle and has talent too, so I think it's valid.
As usual, the band can choose one of it's own songs, surely it's gonna be Hail the Hate, right?
Plus two more songs of their own choice to play
after the interview, so I'd like you to choose two songs from any band you guys like
That influenced you, and then we'll play them for you after this interview at Programa Radioativo.
Well, as our main influences in the band are Judas Priest and Iron Maiden
It's fair enough to choose two songs from them
So, let's have some Judas Priest: Hell Patrol
And for the gran finale The Trooper from Iron Maiden!
Very well, very well so, finally I thank you girls again
Wishing good luck to the band and also saying that the program will be always openned for Steelfox, when you release your CD.
your videoclip, and everything that comes from now on we'll be always openned to disseminate, right?
This program is 11 years old, Radioativo is 11 years old but I know how difficult is to work with rock and metal in Brazil.
It's complicated, I know that we have to struggle a lot being competent as the band is
There's no way, there's always someone who's gonna dislike it
Someone is gonna say something, unfortunately our scene is like that
But here you'll have your space, of course this program is humble, Small, but it'll always be openned for Steelfox!
And I want you to leave here, take the rest of the time to give us your website, where everybody can learn more about the band
Tours, and everything else about Steelfox!
Well, thank you again, Fernando for giving us this space we are very greatful for the opportunity to talk about our band
