today with president obama's inauguration for a second term
uh... and his speech included some really good moments which i'll tell you
about a second
some questionable moments and then some say i don't know what scares us
president obama so
first of all i'm incredibly tired of all the rhetorical flourishes here's an
example
fidelity to our founding principles requires
no responses to new challenges
the preserving are individual freedoms ultimately requires collective action
more than ever
we must do these things together
as one nation
and one people my fellow americans we are made for this moment and we will
seize it
so long as we see is that together
bob so tired i'm so inspired this is a college
like it was back in two thousand four like he was in two thousand however the
speech twenty eight times
and i know what happens in our moment out get well we have to strike a deal
with their insurance company the went
listen a quarter of a loaf is better than no okay
so what i hear that this is our moment together we don't know
bcz i'm tired and exhausted hammered out
from all that wonderful happy shiny speeches firm in the past and can't help
but possibly david two thousand four speech which was as best we saw destiny
for all of hope
that was of course and carries
uh... convention and at the d_n_c_
and i think the back to the promise and wide people recited on them
in the first place
how
he delivered in the first term which as we've shown over and over again was not
very much
as to what i hear the same words
after seeing that actions
you'll forgive me for not being quite as exciting
white now wheat you another classical bob here
we had never relinquished are skepticism of
central authority
nor have we succumb to the factions that all societies ills can be cured through
government along
there we go to eight not too much government not to little government i'm
a little republican i'm a little bit of a grant
in without the contents of almost for sure
it's a perfectly fine thing this and i would probably agree
but i've seen this movie before and it leads to i'll agree with the republicans
eighty nine percent of time and then there may be all agree with
minded people actually voted for me eleven percent down
now we get to the point that bother me the most
this generation of americans has been tested by prices that's still our
resolve improved our resilience
the decade of war is now ended
of corona
at could there was a recent arturo about how the
war on terror
will continue for at least and other ten years
as far as i can stretch in fact there is no plan to end it
it is indefinite
in fact
as the president was reading today
we do know the drug trade union
to kill three wounded on saturday right before all this happened
two u_s_ troop strength in yemen
eight people killed but don't worry we are sure that they were all militants
so now there are reports of how in
bags and then we feel possibly thousands of others including partners of children
don't worry their muslim they're all melted and by the way the war is ended
but it will never end
you'll forgive me for being tired of this rhetoric
on the up side though we did have some good moments in this speech
and here's a president
fighting back against republican ideology
we recognize that no matter how responsibly we live our lives
anyone of us
anytime
they face our job loss or a sudden illness
her home swept away in a terrible storm
the commitments we make to each other
to medicare and medicaid and social security
these things do not sap our mission if they strengthen us
they did not make us the nation's of takers faith reacts to take the rest but
make this country great
now the really positive part of that my life it is
he's aggressively taking on the republicans idea of of pure nation of
takers the jews one-stop
so you know this isn't to make a speakers as intimate us weaker
so make us stronger when you have the base
that medicaid medicare so security provides
that you can build upon that as to how this country was founded
and and belts
it and and all the great progress of presidents we've had
roosevelt and kennedy and lyndon johnson of the civil rights act of satara
and have believed in this and have but the country that way so it was nice to
see him making the progress of case another hand he says that he will
protect those programs
well that's why i'm not a little bit more skeptical because we've seen him
time and time again offered a cot medicare medicaid and so security
when in negotiations with the republicans which he will now enter a
couple months from now around people fifteen we have another showdown coming
willie not offer those cuts my guess is fuel over those cuts and he'll come out
and to the republican talking point of
i didn't cut them i'd strengthened them
they never strengthen
defense by cutting it
may strengthen defense by adding to it right but when it comes to those
programs that help you usually they cut it so his actions are much more
important than his words even though i like those words but here is a historic
moment in the speech better really was important
the people
declared today that the most evident of troops
that all of us are created it
is the star that guides his steps
just as a guide and our forebears to seneca falls and cellmark and stonewall
just as they got it all those men and women son an ensemble left footprints
along this great mal to hear a preacher say that we cannot walk along
to eric jang proclaim that individual freedom is inextricably bound to the
freedom apparently salt water
he did to really important things there one
he connected gay rights the civil rights and women's rights seneca falls
obviously assemble moment on women's rights history
sell mine civil rights the stonewall inn gay-rights and later he would go on to
make it even bigger case for a gay marriage he writes
and it's the first time that is ever been mission not a region for the
president's into the store moment
now we told you before local r_t_c_ part of a the cactus there was that the
president got a tremendous amount of donations from the gay rights community
but it doesn't matter if he's doing the right thing here so we have to analyze
how we got there but we have to also
celebrate within moments in history and this was one of them so
that's fantastic
the part that drives me crazy about president obama as as overall philosophy
we must act knowledge
that our work well beyond perfect
we must act knowing that today's victories
will be only partial
and there will be up to those who stand here in four years and forty years and
four hundred years hence
to advance the timeless spirit once confirmed to us
in a spare philadelphia hall
if it was removed from context and somebody said hey look we get partially
treason rome wasn't built in the game we build up to it
i would say i agree dino building up to show we had many partial victories
and we didn't get there in one day
knowing the context of president obama it appears to me that he's saying
henderson and can get your pardon my ball is to get your portal victory
and then i'll let some brother david for many years from now
but debate therefore victory
then down the road
it when you see what he's saying today in the congress would be doing this for
star
we see
he does not have what he pretended to have of course is the beginning of this
campaigns the fierce urgency of now that that was the phrase more for martin
luther king in fact
might lose i think in a speech called how long not long
uh... where he said back in nineteen
sixty-five
uh... quote by know you're asking today how long will it take
i kept the same to you this afternoon however difficult the moment
problem frustrating that our islamabad the long
you see the attach the position
one guy saying i want to try for a partial victory and other guys saying
no no no were gone for the whole thing
i would not go to get it overnight
but how long notlong
that is also why wouldn't king day
so i wish the president would've taken askew
from king a lot more than he did
