>> KERRY LEPAGE: I got a call early afternoon that there was an issue in a couple rooms
with water coming from the ceiling. This was actually the location where the pipe was burst.
I would say it was controlled chaos. Everyone just came together we actually had people
coming in on their day off to help move supplies around. We had to take all these trays equipment
carts out of this room quickly.
>> DR. BRAD CUSHING: The flood in the OR was a major, major problem. I mean, it really
took a good third of our operating rooms out of commission.
>> TOM HATCH: It was a large task. We lost four ORs and one of the pump rooms.
>> BILL HORTON: We're always kinda the first responders to the start to clean up the mess.
That's really the beginning for us, and then the ending to it is that we're the last ones
out.
>> TOM: We worked real well at the beginning getting the water cleaned up and getting the
contractors in.
>> BRAD: The amount of work that needed doing was substantial to not only to get that cleaned
up but manage all the patients scheduled for surgery over the next few weeks.
>> KERRY: We ended up having to move anywhere from 4 to 10 cases a day and we actually moved
some cases to Scarborough.
>> TOM: All these ceilings had to be removed to include the lights, piping, insulation
had to be removed. Then it all has to be replaced. When it's all said and done we take air samples.
These are air sampling cassettes that we will sample for mold. Because we caught it soon
enough, we didn't have any growth, and that's really important as far as the team getting
together and hitting it fast.
>> BRAD: Teamwork was really impressive. I mean I was just so proud to be associated
with the whole gang here.
>> BILL: The one thing that I'm always so proud of is that the staff responded with
urgency. There's a willingness to go out and just get it done and get the place back open
for the patient.
>> KERRY: I think in these stressful environments we just pull together. I mean, the staff here
are just wonderful, when something comes up they know what they need to do. They're doing
the best that they can to ensure the best care for our patients.
