Hi, I'm Richard Carlton. I wanted to take a quick moment and thank you for downloading
FM Starting Point, and I wanted to give you a little bit of guidance on getting started.
So first off, this video is primarily targeted for those users who have never used FileMaker
and really don't know what it is. But before I help those people, if you're an experienced
FileMaker user, by opening your copy of FM Starting Point on your Mac or Windows, or
in FileMaker Go on your iOS device, and going down here to the help button, accessing a
number of free videos we've made for you. On the left you're going to see FM Starting
Point specific videos, and on the right you're going to see general FileMaker videos that
we've made for you. Now let's jump back in and get our new users going. Now first off,
my goal in this video is not to sell you anything. I want you to be successful in getting FileMaker
set up and learning about FileMaker and FM Starting Point. There's no sales pitch in
this video, and in fact, in all my free videos, there's never a sales pitch. People are always
suspicious of me for not trying to sell you something, and I do apologize for that. Now
let's help out the users who have never used FileMaker, and really don't know what it is.
First off, if you've downloaded FM Starting Point, you may not have it running. If you
actually have it running, then you have a screen that looks like this. Keep in mind,
FM Starting Point is a pre-built, free software that runs on the FileMaker platform. That
means that FileMaker already has to be installed on your iPad or on your Desktop or laptop
computer. Simply installing a free copy of FM Starting Point and double clicking on it
won't do anything if you don't already have FileMaker installed. Now the great part is
that FileMaker Incorporated has made their iPad and iPhone products totally free, so
if you have an iPad or iPhone, you can go to the app store and download FileMaker Go
totally free. Then, you can go to FM Starting Point and download FM Starting Point for free,
and you have a complete solution running without spending any money. Now here's the deal. The
FileMaker platform has been around for more than 20 years. It is created by a company
called FileMaker incorporated. FileMaker Incorporated is a wholly owned subsidiary of Apple Computer,
but like any smart company, FileMaker Incorporated has all their bases covered. They have versions
of FileMaker Pro that run on the Macintosh platform, and also runs on Windows computers.
So you can install FileMaker Pro on your Mac desktop or laptop, or on your Windows desktop
or laptop, and you need to do this before you can run FM Starting Point on your desktop
or laptop computer. Now, keep in mind, FileMaker Pro for your Mac or Windows computer is not
a free product. FileMaker Go, for the iPhone or iPad, is completely a free product. So
you're going to have to pay for FileMaker Pro. Now, keep in mind, I don't sell FileMaker
Pro, so I'm not trying to sell you anything. FM Starting Point, which is the software my
company creates, is completely free. And in my opinion, it's certainly worth the price
of admission of going and buying a copy of FileMaker Pro. In fact, the people that have
learned to use FileMaker Pro over the years actually swear by the product. FileMaker Pro
is in use in thousands of organizations around the world, solving everyday business problems
for governments, private companies, non-profit organizations; from small businesses, to large
corporations, FileMaker is everywhere. So to get you going, I have a number of additional
videos to help explain what FM Starting Point is, and what is FileMaker. We really get into
what is the FileMaker platform. Feel free to click on our additional videos to learn
more about the platform and FM Starting Point. Thanks for watching.
