Hello, I'm Louis Marie Planquette Creator of CENEPUL
Come in to discover my creations...
"CENEPUL" means "Ceci n'est pas un luminaire" "This is not a light"
Actually, I'm not making lights It's more about Light up an item originally made to create light.
We don't buy it to light up a room. Yes, we light up...But the history of these lamps doesn't stop here...
I'm doing objects in order to make them speak for myself. So I don't really like talking about them
I like having discussions with people who like my work
Hear their emotions and start the discussion from their emotions... YES
But if people tell me what I have to do or not do... I wish them good luck, it's never easy to tell me what I have to do
I was working in advertising and communication. And I suddenly felt tired to do this job
I wasn't doing it anymore with passion
So I started to do it in order to make the transition with my career
At the very beginning, it was only personnal. I was doing it only for my own pleasure
And I realized that I liked it. And people around me also liked it
So I decided to turn into Light creator
People consider me as a recycling person. Yes it's right because I buy all the items on small market, brocante, etc...
And in Southern part of France, It's a real pleasure as we have those small markets almost every weekend!
But now, I reached my maximum capacity of materials. And I have probably enough material to work few years !!!
Everything starts from the recycled items These items naturally attracts me
Then, I don't really know what I'm going to do with. But it's attracting me at first sight.
The making process itself can be very fast. But, I can spend a lot of time on the conception itself
So finally, "Time" doesn't mean anything for me. And my Luxurious pleasure is that I offer me the time to make items I love
If I'm doing something I don't like I just give up, I dismantle it and I do something else with it.
A tripod and a bicycle wheel which will be soon a lamp
I'm going to prepare the mechanism.
Here, there will be a film which will turn on the wheel
A reading glass... which will allow to read the images one by one.
And we could read the complete story just by turning the wheel
The light bulb will here
The film will be fixed on the wood wheel... And that's it...
There is a lot of work !!! It's far far from the end
To put the wire through the axis without damaging the wire when the wheel is turning
These are kind of technical challenges that I love to overcome step by step!
I work systematically with LED And I even started more than 10 years ago with the first LED.
In a certain way, I started my career with this new technology
because I participate to a competion organized by SEMA This competition was about new technologies
And without any expectations I won a prize
which allowed me to invest the money of this award in my first show "Maison et Objet PARIS.
The LED I buy are not sold as bulbs so I have to properly set it up
Otherwise, if we electrify it as there are they will burn in the next few minutes...
So it's really important to properly set it up, in order to have the appropriated shelf life
which is almost infinite... like 50000 or 100000 hours
It's a kind of magic as we can light up differently than a traditional bulb!
With very few things, we can get very amazing results...
It's only a LED and a cylinder made of glass
So we can modify the visual aspect just by moving the cylinder.
And we have different effects !
We can pull it up or move aside
we can slanting it as well
So we can create his own painting himself Depending on the daily mood
I got this idea since quite a long time But I couldn't find the right stand
And I suddenly thought about a painting canvas... Very interesting result
But I'm going probably to develop the same concept on different stands
On the glass appears some shimmers which actually doesn't exist
It's only created by the reflection of the LED on the glass...
A telescopic LED
And here you have a Poppy flower...
That one has been made with old negatives...
They were very damaged and I really like the effects offered by the damaged negatives.
But really difficult to find it as people usually throw it away when it's damaged
I created this tiny lamp especially for a customer who lives on a River boat
And wanted light where she had very spaces
One of my other creations is a lamp that I named "Hommage à Méliès"
Made from an old box, I put a movie film inside
And it remembers the moon's journey of Georges Méliès
We can change the light intensity just by tunring the movie film
Not everybody like it...
What I like is, when people feel emotions when they look at it
It brings them a part of dreams... A journey accross an universe they would love to live in...
