This short video is going to show you how to create a memo. In a memo we have 4 captions:
TO, FROM, DATE, and Subject. And those captions should all be capitalized and bold. Across
from each caption we enter the appropriate information and all that information should
be aligned with a tab to 1 inch. So let's get started. I'm assuming that you've already
changed your margins to 1" on all sides and your line spacing to single with no extra
space before or after he paragraph. We start a memo right at the top at 1 inch. We're going
capitalize the first caption TO, press colon, and then tab twice so it aligns at one inch.
Be sure you turn off your caps lock and then type in who it's to. In this case we're making
it to All Transcom Employees. Press enter twice to put in the next caption which is
FROM and the memo in this case is going to be from me. Press enter twice and put in the
next caption which is date. Today's date is August 13th. Fortunately it's not a Friday.
And the final caption is the subject. Press enter twice for the body and I once again
copied some text and I'll just enter it so you see what it will look like. Between each
paragraph you should still have one blank line; and, also remember I told you that these
are bold. So we're going to go back up and click on them and bold each one. If you had
an enclosure, you would put it at the bottom just like you would in a letter. That's it.
That is a memo. A very simple format and once again remember this is only used as an internal
document. There are templates online at Microsoft Office--memo templates--but if you didn't
want to use that, this is a very simple format and this is the format that we will use for
this class.
