Hi, my name is Austin Harmon, but out here I'm known as Forrest Evergreen, and I'm here
on expertvillage.com to teach you about the game of Amtgard. In a normal trench battle
like this; when you die; the standard protocol is to put your sword or your hand above your
head. This signals that I'm no longer in play, so you don't inadvertently get hit by somebody
who thinks you're still playing after you're not paying attention. You wait until one side
has been beaten. Then you line back up, and somebody will yell the phrase lay on, which
means let's start; let's begin combat again, and you'll fight again until one side has
been beaten, and you'll divide back up. Like I said; normally people will switch sides,
and sometimes somebody new will come into the game; somebody who wasn't fighting in
the previous round. What we'll do is have that person join the side that lost the last
round; to give them an advantage, and we'll continue fighting. Sometimes you'll have a
four on four battle, and one team will win. They'll give up a dead player, and then five
new people will join the game, and all go to the side that just lost. Suddenly, you're
outnumbered three to nine; three to ten, and you're like ok, this is interesting. You just
fight your way until you can kill one or two people, and get somebody on your side, and
rebound the number. There are times that you really have to work at it because you're way
outnumbered, and there are times that you're so outnumbered on the other side that you
don't get a chance to swing, and you've just got to wait for the next round. It varies
back and forth. You never know what's going to happen next.
