Kachemak Bay Campus is one of KPC’s two main campus locations. It has its own unique campus flavor centered around
personal attention, and you should be aware that there may be differences in how some things are organized or handled.
KBC has a support staff and highly qualified and experienced faculty who are all committed to your success,
and contacting people directly is often the quickest way to get what you’re looking for.
Student and Enrollment Services at KBC is a single place you can go to connect directly with all the resources that you need to be
successful as a student. These include things like student and academic advising, assessment testing, tutoring,
financial aid, disability support, and navigating the University of Alaska system.
Advising helps you determine your academic goals, design advantageous course sequencing, and plan for your future.
Regularly connecting with an advisor is a vital step for students working toward a certificate or degree.
Advisors help with selecting courses, writing petitions and appeals, monitoring progress towards graduation,
and finding career information. Meet with your advisor at least once a semester prior to registering,
to prevent problems or graduation delays. Kim or Dean can help directly with student advising,
and can help put you in touch with the right faculty member for academic advising.
Financial aid advice is available, and there are a number of ways you can fund your education, whether you’re seeking a degree
or just personal enrichment. You can maximize your advantage by planning ahead, so consider contacting an advisor right away.
For more details, contact the main desk.
Disability Support Services are available for students who experience disabilities
or other barriers within the educational setting. Sometimes this can be as simple as getting more effective access to materials.
Adjustments can be provided through the accommodation process, which requires the student to make a request.
Please contact Student and Enrollment Services for further details.
We can also help with Admissions and Registration. Different parts of the University of Alaska system have different calendar dates and
registration mechanics. Also, please note: if you need to change your registration status (for example,
withdraw or change to audit), you cannot do it online - but KBC staff can help you get it done.
Student and Enrollment Services is physically located at the main desk of KBC’s Pioneer building, lower level just inside the front door.
The Learning Resource Center is a multiple-use environment that you can think of as a place to go for help with your classes.
There are general resources here such as dictionaries and supplemental textbooks, as well as technology tools such as computers,
printer and scanner, and DVD/VCR for viewing educational materials. Academic tutoring services are available both in-person and at a
distance. For more details, please contact Caroline.
Tutoring is available both in-person at the Learning Resource Center, and at a distance using tools such as eLive and pencasts.
KBC’s Math Specialist sums up the attitude by saying, "Sooner or later, we all wind up in the ditch. We're here to help you get unstuck.“
There are online labs available for writing and math, and we can help you get started with them if you want.
On the new website, you should be able to find links to both labs under the E-Learning tab, and the Resources menu item.
Proctored testing is available in KBC’s Bayview Hall, right next to the Learning Resource Center.
Testing includes Accuplacer placement tests and academic testing for those instructors who require it.
Note that your instructor needs to make the arrangement prior to testing. All proctored tests require an appointment,
so plan ahead to make sure you actually get a seat when you need it. Contact Nancy for details.
The Learning Resource Center is located just across from the main door in KBC’s Bayview Hall.
KBC has an adult basic education program, which offers free tutoring and instruction in basic math, writing, reading,
English as a Second Language, life skills, and preparation and testing for the GED.
Individualized instruction, technology tools and study groups are part of the program. For details, contact Jan or Lolita.
ABE is located in the faculty hallway in KBC’s Bayview Hall.
Please remember that KBC does have a campus library, and there are services available for E-Learning students as well.
For details, contact Chris.
KBC’s library is located in room 210 of the Pioneer building, on the second floor just off the commons.
The IT Help Desk is available to help if you have technical difficulties –
here you see an email address and phone numbers for the Soldotna area, Homer area, and for other areas of Alaska.
