Hi, it's Dow here at the Fire House Detail Shop. Today we're detailing the interior of
a boat, and teaching you how to make sure your boat is detailed like a professional.
Now we explain our seating areas. I want to talk about the instrument panels, I want to
talk about cup holders and just the different areas that we see in a boat, dashboards, those
kind of areas. What I keep is my caddy here with all my cleaning supplies, my brushes,
towels, all the things I need as I move through here. Another trick I have, when I'm in a
boat, particularly someone else's boat, I take my shoes off so that I'm not tracking
dirt, I'm not making scuff marks. I want to treat the inside of their car, their boat
just like I would somebody's inside of their car, delicate and with care. So what I'm going
to do is here on the instrument cluster. In our lakes here in the western United States,
we go to Lake Powell, we go to these mountain lakes or maybe Lake Tahoe, those kind, there's
often blowing dust and there's dirt. So we get dust settled in to the instrument panels
areas. So my first go through is with a soft bristle brush and an air compressor. I can
simply go through an instrument panel, blowing it, dusting it and knocking the dirt off as
I go through. It really gives me a chance to get this really clean and knock all the
dirt out. It's advisable to do this probably as your first step even before you vacuum
the carpets because you're going to be knocking dirt and dust and debris down. So in cleaning
an instrument panel you kind of want to go on a boat and the interior you want to start
at the top and work down. The last step's probably your carpets and floor. The other
thing about air is you really can get in all the nooks and crannies. Air is good by itself,
but air is better when it's assisted by a brush because you really can go through all
the nooks and crannies. I like to go through the seats, I like to go through just about,
you know, and the dashboard, everywhere I can I'm knocking and pushing dirt out of the
cracks and crevices down on to the floor where it can be vacuumed up or washed out. I'll
go through all the instrument panels, I'll go through all this. And then once that's
done, I'll grab a good interior cleanser and just spray things down, careful not to get
the instrument panels too wet. You know this broad surface is great. And I'll go through
with a terrycloth towel and just wipe the surfaces down till they're clean and look
good. If I have to I can come back with a detail brush. But the general process here
is getting rid of the dirt and the grime with your air and your brushes, then come back,
wipe the surfaces clean and then we can do the dressing that we talked in an earlier
segment about a good vinyl and leather dressing. And just blaze through in the end here. With
this dressing you can see how that just brings the protection here, the shine, luster back
to this instrument panel, leaves it looking good, leaves it looking protected. And just
trace all the areas, you know, reapplying plenty of leather condition, vinyl conditioner
to make these surfaces protected and protected from the UV rays and from the water that might
get on here. And It just makes it easier to clean and of course you can see how good it
looks.
