I ended up at UWA at the recommendation of my director. I was working the Institute of
Agricultural Research in the Ministry of Ghana, and my director actually is a former graduate
of this school. So one day he was searching on the web and he found out that one of his
colleagues went away to study here; is actually still at post at UWA as a faculty member.
So he contacted him by email and through that correspondence it led to the signing of a
Memorandum of Understanding between UWA and my home university. And UWA agreed to offer
a scholarship to my home university. This scholarship was then open to prospective applicants
and I did apply and competed for the scholarship which I won and that brought me here.
My advice to anyone wanting to come to UWA would be if they are really looking for a
university where they can get a recognisable degree, they should stop searching and just
come to UWA because this university has everything to offer. In terms of research opportunities,
in terms of career opportunities, in terms of a job search after school, UWA is the place to be.
My fondest memory of UWA is the welcome ceremony
that was organised for postgraduate students on my arrival. This ceremony was attended
by the Vice Chancellor, the pro-Vice Chancellor and several officers of the Graduate Research
School. In fact they took turns to explain to us what opportunities are available to
us as post graduate students, they explained to us what is expected of us in the various
researches that we are embarking upon and I will always remember this occasion.
