Hyperemesis Gravidarum is a severe form of morning sickness in pregnancy. It is with,
um; Morning sickness, most of the time comprises nausea. Some women end up throwing up, some
do not. With hyperemesis there is constant nausea and vomiting morning, afternoon and
evening usually. And it can persist past the normal 12 weeks of pregnancy. It can go on
throughout the whole pregnancy. It can get to a point where there is severe dehydration,
lack of calorie intake and significantly affect the mom to the point where she's not able
to perform her activities of daily life.
Women who have hyperemesis usually end up initially being admitted to the hospital for
IV dehydration and then, whether they are able to get on a medication regimen that would
help them be able to hydrate at home. They maybe able to go home, some stay in for IV
therapy for something called TPN which gives them food and calories because they're not
able to keep it in themselves. And hopefully they'll figure out a regimen that they can
do at home or there is also home nurse, home health, home nurses would be able to come
and help them administer medications IV at home as well.
