What is the cheapest cruise line?
I suppose riding in your grandfather’s boat around doesn’t count.
No, it doesn’t. I want to travel on a quality cruise ship.
Even some of the biggest cruise lines have suffered outbreaks of Norwalk Virus, causing
hundreds on board to get ill. That was the fate of the Caribbean Princess.
I thought that was a Royal Caribbean cruise.
Both, actually, as well as several Carnival cruises.
Then I might as well take a few pounds of antacids, since even the big name ships often
make customers ill. There was even an outbreak on the Queen Mary 2 a few years ago.
Voyages of Discovery is one of the lower cost cruise lines. They have refurbished ships
and cater to retirees.
So I can enjoy it without doing the Full Monte.
The Celebration Cruise Line has short Bahamas cruises for a few hundred dollars.
I’m not sure I want to take the ultra-cheap cruises. Those are the cruises that let you
get on board for free if you’re willing to listen to a time share advertisement.
You can save money on big name cruise lines if you go on their older ships. The new ones
have all the bells and whistles and amenities, while the older ones are cheaper to travel
on.
As long as I can get Wi-Fi, I’m fine.
On vacation?
Of course. I need to be able to watch streaming video and post selfies from the cruise ship.
If you want a nicer ship while being kind to your budget, take a three or four day cruise
instead of a week long cruise. Or travel in January and February, when demand is lowest.
Or I can take the midnight cruise around the bay in the middle of the week to save money.
That’s almost as bad as borrowing your father’s boat.
