I was a bit of a smartass in university.
(Peter) Yeah.
And i was just lucky enough to stumble into a really
really great mentor who picked me out of a class and said, 'You'd make a good doctor,'
and I actually said
'Yeah, like whatever buddy. Why would I do that?'
And it's something that I actually never actually even considered. I didn't think I
was
qualified or able.
As a kid in Creston,
growing up in a small town, it just wasn't part of my sphere. So anyways, this
great mentor picks me up and says, 'You'd make a great doctor.'
So he kept badgering me through my studies in kinesiology.
Finally I said, okay I'll apply.
And I'm happy I did that. No looking back. Once you
got into the, like medical training a lot of med students, or,
pre-med students they're a little nervous. They're like,
well, should I do this? There's so many years of training. But actually the training
and the residency is so much fun.
It's part of a group of people that, especially when they start,
are just super inspired to make a difference.
It sounds so cliche, but really like, you effect people's lives immediately and
long-term and you think you're doing some good for people.
So, that's where it started.
