Many people ask about the costs of hair restoration, and it's important to keep in mind that these
are going to vary greatly, depending on who's doing your surgery, the amount of experience
that they have, the team that they use. On average, for people who are doing the strip
method the graft price can go anywhere from $3 to $6 on average.
It's also important to know that for follicular unit extraction, because it's much more time-consuming
for the physician involved, the prices are normally double that. So they'll often go
from $5 to $12 per graft. A graft is a follicular unit. That's how they occur naturally, meaning
a one, two, three or four hair graft. Each one is priced the same.
To give you an idea of how many grafts you might need in a given area, for example, I
like to use a fist. If you take your fist and you put it over the bald area, it's about
1,500 grafts. However, often patients will want twice that or have a second session to
get even greater density.
So if you're starting to thin, 1,500 grafts or a fist in a given area may be enough. If
you want thicker density, or you've got nothing up there, you may need a second session to
get greater density or to cover more area. So typically, if you're going to cover the
whole head, you're going to need 3 to 4,000 grafts at least once through that zone and
often twice.
