They’re real professionals
in both skiing and outside also so
it’s hard to say but
they train hard, and they train together
they’re strong and they’re good
Marcialonga was the first important race I won
so for me this race is very special
I started 10 times and I got 9 times on the podium
so it’s an important race, and the last hill is special,
it’s 2.5 kilometres uphill that suits me good
but every year it’s getting harder and harder
more people are specialising
and it’s gonna be tough this year I think
I’ve been skiing with Atomic since 2004
It has been a really good cooperation
very very good service
in long distance races the skis are really really important.
Our waxing teams have done a great jobs with our skis
and done a lot of testing
different places along the tracks
because it’s a little bit different in the start and here in the end
here it’s more sunny and icy
and up in the start it’s more dryer and colder
Like a lot of the skiers, we have done this race so many times
and we know what it’s all about
it’s more like getting back into confidence
and trust that what we have done is good enough
just go out there and do our best and hopefully we will win
but there are many good skiers so
it’s not showing up and picking up the first place
it’s not that easy
you have to have the right day, the right skis
and yeah, you have to have a good day.
You can divide Marcialonga into 3 parts
The first 15 km where you go from the start up to Canazei
it’s gradual uphill all the way
and then you turn around
and then it’s just down the valley, high speed
so the group that is together in Canazei
is the same group that is down here 40 km later
Nothing happens down the valley,
you just have to stay out of troubles,
don’t break a pole, don’t crash
and then again, you turn here and it’s 5 km to the finish
it’s more uphill and the last 3 km it’s steep uphill.
You have to be really focus to get the feeling during the race,
to drink energy drinks.
Something happens to your body body when you pass 2 or 2 and a half hours,
that’s when you really see who’s the best in the long distances.
You never feel confident,
it’s really hard to go there alone in the front.
You don't know how much power the other guys in the chasing group have.
When I went into the last uphill, I was not sure at all that I had enough time.
The last 500 meters,
that’s the most awesome feeling you can have as a top athlete.
You work all the year to achieve this,
it’s just a fantastic feeling…
Those last 500 meters are the best minutes of the whole day.
Really really happy for the team victory.
Not surprised,
I knew he could do this, it’s really really good that he managed to win Marcialonga
because it’s one of the greatest race to win.
