As we look to the future,
there is much to consider in the way of facility design, workflow,
access, comfort, the flow of information
and the caregiver-patient relationship. Growth and change are inevitable and
healthcare environments must be flexible to adapt to the integration of new
technologies,
information systems and healthcare protocols. Now is the time to rethink
and redefine workflow. At the core of Midmark is a new way of thinking about
caregiver-patient interaction and the delivery of efficient patient care.
This guide contains the tools and solutions to consider when creating
clinical work environments to effectively advance patient care
and office efficiency. We'll start the tutorial by walking you through the
various exam room designs
from traditional, EMR transition, safe patient handling
to dual access.
Next we'll show you various procedure room designs
from a general procedures room to more specialized designs.
We'll finish the tutorial exploring various vital signs workflows
that will increase efficiency and improve care while complementing your
office design.
Care providers must rethink exam room design to improve the patient
experience and workflow.
This next layout, the dual access room design,
improves workflow while eliminating common obstacles.
Healthcare is shifting to a lean, integrated care model with improved
collaboration.
This dual access room maximizes floor space with two lockable sliding doors
that simplify patient flow and management, enables increased collaboration,
and eliminates obstacles to the integration of new technologies.
In collaboration with leading architectural firm NBBJ,
Midmark highlights key design concepts for a dual access exam room.
Two doors -- one for patient entry and one for caregiver entry --
enable safe, clear patient navigation. The lockable sliding doors maximize floor
space
and allow for easy transitions in and out of the room. For additional privacy
the caregiver door can be covered on the inside by a curtain. In this flexible
access room,
the consultation zone is easily accessible from both entrances
and includes seating and a mobile work surface to exchange information.
A large display enables viewing of patient information during care
and allows patient viewing of educational information. And it provides a separate
care team work area
free of patient interruption. Patients are seated on the barrier-free exam table
throughout the visit,
with all care elements in close proximity. A mobile supply cart provides an
additional work surface to organize instruments and supplies.
The cart can be positioned to accommodate the preference of the caregiver for easy
access.
This next exam room design provides the flexibility needed for ongoing patient
monitoring.
Today's successful patient care extends far beyond the office door.
This continuous care room design features a dedicated consultation zone
so physicians can stay in contact with caregivers and monitor patients health more
closely.
Remote diagnostic tools provide a means of feedback
and support the patient care relationship. The care zone
is designed for flexibility and patient proximity to increase caregiver
efficiency
and provide immediate access to instruments and supplies.
The consultation zone is designed around a shared interactive display monitor for
the caregiver and patient.
This design is ideal for chronic disease management because it allows the
caregiver to review medical records,
display educational materials, and set schedules for medication.
In this exam room design, communication is focused on engaging the patient
beyond the actual visit.
Electronic tools enable remote caregiver- patient interaction through educational
materials
and feedback for monitoring progress. The caregiver may also use these tools
independently between face-to-face visits to utilize fewer exam rooms.
