A Texas college student was shot and killed by a campus police officer Friday morning,
according to police.
Reports say 23-year-old Robert Cameron Redus was driving erratically and speeding at about
2:30 a.m. That when the senior at University of the Incarnate Word was stopped by Cpl.
Christopher Carter. (Via KSAT)
Fox News reports the two men pulled off into the parking lot of Redus' apartment complex.
"Both men got out of their vehicles at some point, and became embroiled in a struggle
that prompted Carter to radio his colleagues for help."
But before anyone arrived, KHOU reports, "Carter open fire several times, killing the young
man."
It's still unclear why the officer, who's been in law enforcement for eight years, fired
his weapon. But a neighbor claims to have overheard what might have been Redus' last
words.
He tells the San Antonio Express-News, "I heard (a man) say, 'Oh, you're gonna shoot
me?' like sarcastic almost."
"They were was just boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Six shots. Five or six" (Via KTRK)
Redus' friends are now coping with the loss. One said at a vigil on Saturday --
"He's not an aggressive person at all, so this story just doesn't really make sense
to any of us." (Via ABC)
As for the officer, Carter is currently on administrative leave, waiting further investigation.
