Hi, this is John Bernard. Welcome to my blog this week. Culture determines the degree to
which organizations can change. It ultimately determines the pace of change. So, how is
it that we alter culture?
My basic hypothesis is that, the primary tool that we can use to drive culture change is
to make shifts in our management system. Our management system defines the routines and
the roles that people play and thus the behavior that we expect of them. So, if we want to
create changes in our culture, the most expedient way to do that is to actually alter the system
of management.
When I wrote my book, that was the fundamental premise of this book, is that change is really
driven by culture. It’s not driven by attempts to alter behavior indirectly through such
things as training.
I hope you find this blog interesting and in the coming months, I’m doing a whole
series on culture change and how a management system actually can help organizations create
much more rapid change in culture, creating the culture they want and need. As leaders,
this is imperative.
This is John Bernard. I’ll see you next time. Thanks for joining me. Bye-bye.
