San Diego Mayor Bob Filner has a lot on his
plate, but he could end up owing taxpayers if they cover his tab.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the City of San Diego filed a counter-complaint against
Filner Tuesday for possible damages if the city covers his legal fees.
To give you an idea of how much that'll cost...

about $2 million." (Via XETV)
City Attorney Jan Goldsmith, who has had spats with Filner in the past, says the city shouldn't
have to pay because the mayor's alleged misconduct is outside the scope of his job. (Via KNSD)
The decision to sue Filner comes as the City Council deliberates on whether the city will
actually foot the mayor's legal bill.
Filner's private attorney submitted a request for the City Council to pay for his defense.
KGTV reports this isn't an unusual occurrence when a city worker is sued.
Beyond legal troubles, Filner could also be removed from office by recall. Currently two
separate parties have started recall efforts. (Via KSWB)
More than one week ago, Irene McCormack Jackson filed a lawsuit against Filner and the City
of San Diego saying the mayor sexually harassed her and other women in the workplace.
Since then, a total of seven women have come forward with similar accusations, saying the
mayor touched them inappropriately and, in some cases, put them in headlocks. (Via KPBS)
Filner will undergo behavior therapy on August 5. Jackson's lawyer has subpoenaed the mayor
for an August 9 deposition.
