>> STEVE CARLSON: Hi, I'm Steve Carlson
>> STEVE CARLSON: Candidate for the United States Congress from Minnesota
>> STEVE CARLSON: I just listened to the hearing of Betty McCollum
>> STEVE CARLSON: ah, trying to rally support
>> STEVE CARLSON: for an immigration bill this session here at the Minnesota State Capitol,
she's trying to get pressure on the
>> STEVE CARLSON: House of Representatives where she serves
>> STEVE CARLSON: I will submit this written testimony to her office.
>> STEVE CARLSON: Only pre-selected speakers were allowed to talk, at her listening session
from special interest groups.
>> STEVE CARLSON: Now I do not support the Senate bill.
>> STEVE CARLSON: I believe that it is race-baiting Hispanics
>> STEVE CARLSON: and that Barack Obama is race-baiting both Hispanics and blacks as
a central, core election strategy for the Democrats, and that this strategy is EXTREMELY
dangerous for the United States and the whole region.
>> STEVE CARLSON: Further, just because people will make hundreds of millions of dollars,
even billions, building a border does not mean it is a good idea and it is not a good
idea.
>> STEVE CARLSON: That said, there are 11 million illegal aliens in this nation, including
children, and many of those are U.S. citizens.
>> STEVE CARLSON: Because the children when athey are born here are U.S. citizens,
>> STEVE CARLSON: and when we deport them we deport U.S. citizens, this has historically
been a fact
>> STEVE CARLSON: It violates the 14th Amendment
>> STEVE CARLSON: Now these people are currently helping our economy.
>> STEVE CARLSON: We thank them.
>> STEVE CARLSON: If these people are forced across the border,
>> STEVE CARLSON: they will return to poverty, to human rights violations and to corruption.
Many will be killed.
>> STEVE CARLSON: And were not going to do that, were just going to harass them,
>> STEVE CARLSON: arrest them,
>> STEVE CARLSON: separate them from their families like they are slaves or something.
>> STEVE CARLSON: I'm saying we're not going to do that to all 11 million, but there will
be people who are deported.
>> STEVE CARLSON: This is the central issue we need to address:
>> STEVE CARLSON: How do we work together with Mexico to transform this region,
>> STEVE CARLSON: northern Mexico and Southwest United States?
>> STEVE CARLSON: Have you heard any ideas about this from Betty McCollum,
>> STEVE CARLSON: or Al Franken,
>> STEVE CARLSON: or Amy Klobuchar,
>> STEVE CARLSON: or Barack Obama?
>> STEVE CARLSON: No
>> STEVE CARLSON: You have not, because their strategy is getting votes.
>> STEVE CARLSON: Security is a big problem in the border states on the U.S. side.
>> STEVE CARLSON: You know, we have the United States of America, and then we have the United
States of Mexico, did you know that?
>> STEVE CARLSON: Officially in Mexico it is the United Mexican States.
>> STEVE CARLSON: And there are 10 of these states that border our United States.
>> STEVE CARLSON: There are 7 U.S. states on that border.
>> STEVE CARLSON: But the security issues are not going to be met
>> STEVE CARLSON: if these two nations just try to sanitize their own states of migrants
from the other.
>> STEVE CARLSON: How foolish!
>> STEVE CARLSON: Why are we doing this?
>> STEVE CARLSON: Is it for the land?
>> STEVE CARLSON: Are real estate interests concerned theyll lose land to someone else?
>> STEVE CARLSON: Why?
>> STEVE CARLSON: The whole region is basically unproductive.
>> STEVE CARLSON: More productive on the U.S. side, but still held back by our failure to
move forward.
>> STEVE CARLSON: On the other hand, if we integrate the border zone, an international
border zone,
>> STEVE CARLSON: we can encourage business transactions that encourage and increase productivity
and the value of the land.
>> STEVE CARLSON: I propose that we move forward, by having Washington work with the border
states, in the Border State Governors Organization,
>> STEVE CARLSON: which meets annually, and address these issues.
>> STEVE CARLSON: How do we increase security, meaning safety, on both sides of the border?
>> STEVE CARLSON: How do we increase and ensure human rights on both sides of the border?
>> STEVE CARLSON: How do we encourage cultural rights and integration, meaning BOTH Spanish
and English and mutual respect and cooperation?
>> STEVE CARLSON: How do we encourage investment, even international investment in the region?
>> STEVE CARLSON: And I dont mean fences.
>> STEVE CARLSON: Mitt Romney listened to my idea in 2012 of cutting the federal deficit
by shifting power and resources back to the 50 states.
>> STEVE CARLSON: I wish he had listened to this one, and responded.
>> STEVE CARLSON: He wouldnt have invented an unnecessary phrase self-deport.
>> STEVE CARLSON: I just listened to a man whose relatives didnt get their paperwork
straight this month
>> STEVE CARLSON: and were deported.
>> STEVE CARLSON: Among them, two children,
>> STEVE CARLSON: born in the U.S.,
>> STEVE CARLSON: who were citizens under the 14th Amendment.
>> STEVE CARLSON: We can cry, or we can do something about it.
>> STEVE CARLSON: And we can do the right, intelligent thing which is what I am proposing.
>> STEVE CARLSON: If elected to Congress I WILL make this a reality.
>> STEVE CARLSON: I ask for your vote,
>> STEVE CARLSON: and would be proud to have it, and thank you to all who have voted for
me in Congressional elections
>> STEVE CARLSON: and I hope you will consider my proposal, and talk with me on FaceBook
about it, or Twitter at #stribpol.
>> STEVE CARLSON: Or elsewhere on social media.
>> STEVE CARLSON: Now I contacted Bill Richardson long ago,
>> STEVE CARLSON: but I see Bill is concentrating on a racial alliance within the Democratic
party,
>> STEVE CARLSON: pitting blacks and Hispanics against whites
>> STEVE CARLSON: in all those states
>> STEVE CARLSON: to beat down the whites and Republicans,
>> STEVE CARLSON: and thats why he ditched Hillary and Bill and went with Barack.
>> STEVE CARLSON: I am saddened by this, and I had contacted him because at the time he
was chair of the Border States Governors organization.
>> STEVE CARLSON: I never heard one word from Bill.
>> STEVE CARLSON: And I hope Betty McCollum will bring this forward
